Oh no, I have not. Not like that.

I reach up and brush my fingers to my lips. I can still feel his soft lips on mine. It was such a sweet kiss, gentle and affectionate. But the effect on me was anything but gentle. When his lips met mine, a rush of emotions flooded my whole body. My heart was racing. My stomach had a thousand butterflies fluttering. My knees were weak. I felt this closeness with him that I’ve never experienced before.

My phone vibrates with another text.

Caleb

I know you’ll be busy this morning so I left something on the porch for you.

I walk to my front door and open it to see a brown paper bag. I grab it and take it into my little kitchen. Inside, is my favorite coffee and a box with a note. I take a sip of my coffee (which is delicious) and open the box to find a heart-shaped glazed donut. I pick up the note and read it.

Good morning, my absolutely stunning girlfriend. (Will I get used to that? I don’t think so.)

I can’t wait to see you later. I’ll be the dashing young man who can’t keep his eyes off you.

Yours, Caleb

PS. Careful biting into your donut. Maybe tear it instead?

I do as he suggests—tear the donut—to find a note inside.

BE MINE

As I stand before my grandparent’s homestead, I’m amazed by the serene beauty of it. After both grandma and grandpa passed away, my parents inherited it, but it’s been sitting empty. It’s just a few miles out of town, but mom didn’t want to live far away from us—yes, a few miles out of town is too far—and she likes being in the middle of the hustle and bustle of our small town.

Dad’s been coming out here for the last few months fixing up the old barn for Missy’s wedding today. The barn is surrounded by fields of wildflowers offering the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. This place holds so many fond memories for me, spending time with my grandma in her farmhouse kitchen or running through the fields with my sisters. Every day, Grandpa would pick flowers for Grandma and display them on the table as we enjoyed whatever dessert we baked that day. Their love was something I always admired and hope to find someday. And maybe Caleb is that one for me.

The girls all got ready at my parents’ house before coming here. Can you believe it took us hours to do our hair and makeup? The lengths we women go to for these special occasions. And now my sister is getting married. Who knows, I might be next! I can’t believe I’m even thinking that. Just a few weeks ago, I would have laughed at myself. I didn’t have anyone, not even any prospects. I wasn’t looking for a relationship. Caleb literally came out of nowhere. Isn’t that what they always say—love finds you when you least expect it?

The inside of the barn looks like something out of a fairytale movie. A gorgeous chandelier hangs in the center with yards and yards of material hanging from the rafters. Circular tables are scattered around the edges of the barn with a spacious dance floor in the middle. The DJ is setting up shop in front of what used to be storage room while others are adding the final touches to the tables. My eyes are drawn to the floral arrangements on each table—Caleb. My heart flutters at the thought of him.

“Wow, Missy,” I sigh as we look into the barn. “This looks beautiful.”

“I know. I’m glad we didn’t change the structure at all. A good power wash, new flooring, and fixing a few roof holes was all it needed. Now it looks exactly how I pictured it,” Missy replies, her hands clasped together in front of her.

“Dad mentioned they might make it a venue long-term now,” I tell Missy.

“Can you imagine all the weddings that could be held here?” Missy exclaims.

“Come on, Missy, time to get you in your dress,” Mom yells out.

Missy goes into the room where Mom is helping her get her dress on.

“I saw your boyfriend out there,” Olivia startles me, causing me to put my hand over my heart.

“Give a girl a heart attack, why don’t you,” I tease. “Wait. He’s already here?” I ask.

She nods. “He said he wanted to make sure the flowers arrived okay.” Olivia places her hand on my arm. “I think you found a good one, Piper.”

I think I did too.

Olivia, Annie (Missy’s best friend), and I are eagerly waiting for the grand reveal. When Mom and Missy emerge from the room, we all gasp at Missy. They shower Missy with compliments about how beautiful, stunning, gorgeous she looks and how lucky Nolan is to have her as his bride.

“You look beautiful,” I tell her, my eyes filling with tears. Her dress is a simple strapless design with a ruched bodice and layers of tulle for the skirt, perfectly matching the vision Missy had.

“You don’t look bad yourself, Sis,” Missy smirks.

“I have to admit, I like this dress a lot more than that first one,” I chuckle.
