“Definitely not as creepy. However, you might suggest she introduce you as her stepbrother, not brother.”

“She considers me family,” I said with a sigh.

“Ah, hence the problem. You think of her as anything but family but she can’t or won’t?” Trina asked.

“I’m not sure. We’ve always been friends. Our parents are married. It would be sticky for us to get involved.”

“Yet, you look at her like you want to eat her for lunch, or any meal you can get your hands on.”

“This was not how I thought the walk would go,” I stated.

“If you want to head back to your room, I’m all for it. I could use a little fun. But I don’t think that’s what you want and your heart and the rest of your body wouldn’t be in it. Why don’t we do something else instead,” Trina said.

“What do you have in mind?” I asked.

“Make her jealous,” Trina said and pulled me with her onto a volleyball court.

There were a few other people who were already playing and they were happy to have us join in. There was always a volleyball sitting by the courts both in the pool and the sand just waiting for people to start a game. As the sun had set the weather had cooled and it was a perfect time to play. I had been athletic in school and had kept up with swimming and basketball when I was in college and still did when I could. I leaned more towards golf and pickle ball lately.

Volleyball had never been my game but it was easy to pick up and I knew the basic rules. I laughed with Trina and the rest of the people as we played the game. Occasionally, Trina would come up to me and pat my ass, run her hand down my arm, or even give me a dazzling smile. I wasn’t sure at first what she was doing but then she tilted her head over to the pool and I understood.

Sydney, Alison, and Laura were all sitting at the edge of the pool watching us. They were talking and laughing and I could see Alison pointing at one of the players when they did something right. I didn’t notice them as much as I noticed Sydney. She was watching me. More importantly, she was watching me and Trina and how we were together.

I couldn’t see her face completely as it was covered by a hat, but I could see that her shoulders were tense and she was drinking her rum and Coke quicker than normal. I looked over at Trina who gave me a knowing smile. This had been her plan all along, to make Sydney jealous.

Normally, I wouldn’t want to resort to such levels to get a woman interested in me. I never had needed to before. But Sydney wasn’t your typical woman nor did we have a typical relationship. If I needed to give her a little push so that she would see she wanted me as much as I wanted her, then I would use it. I would take every advantage I could.

Knowing what Trina was doing and not wanting to question it too much, I played along. I ran my hands along her sides, gave her a huge hug when we won a point, even gave her ass an affectionate pat every now and again. I wanted to look over at Sydney to see what she was doing but I didn’t dare. I worried if I looked at her, I would give away the real reason why I was doing everything.

Trina was an excellent sport, playing along with what I was doing and even taking it up a notch. She leaned over a few times and whispered in my ear, nothing scandalous but enough to make me laugh. I did look over at Sydney then and she looked anything but happy. I didn’t like the game I was playing with her or that I had to lower myself to this level in order to get her to see me in a new life, but I was desperate.

As the sun set, the game finished and everyone went their separate ways. I walked with Trina over to our shoes. We waved at a few of the other players and stood facing each other. Her face glistened with a little bit of sweat and her hair was plastered to her face. She looked sexy and if it had been any other situation, I would have leaned in and kissed her.

“Thanks for that. It was fun,” I said.

“I should be the one thanking you,” Trina said.

“Really? Why is that? I thought we were making Sydney jealous,” I said.

“You might have been but I was doing the same thing to Rocko over there,” she said and looked over at one of the other volleyball players. He was about the same height as me at a little over six feet, but he had blonde hair and blue eyes. Eyes there were staring at me and Trina with interest.

“Something going on between you two?” I asked.

“We started something last night but didn’t finish it. I thought it was because he wasn’t interested in me. I can see now that isn’t the case. I’m going to go and talk to him; you should do the same with Sydney. If looks could kill, I would have been six feet under before we finished the first match.”

“She’s protective of me,” I said. However, I didn’t believe the statement and the look Trina gave me told me she didn’t either.

“You laid the groundwork today. I would go and talk to her. Maybe be honest with her that you were only talking to me because she asked and then to make her jealous.”

“She isn’t going to want to hear that.”

“Every woman wants to hear that. We like the idea that we can drive a man insane or to do stupid things like flirt with another woman just to get our attention. She might be annoyed, she might be shocked, but deep down she will be flattered. You’re a sexy man and she might not think you want her.”

“Possibly. It’s complicated.”

“Isn’t everything?” Trina said with a laugh.

“True,” I admitted
