Lindsey: Okay, everyone ready? Here we go… We were right! Prince Torin was in the US to get engaged!

Jen: But that’s about the only thing we got right! He not only got engaged, he’s also getting married! And it’s not to Linnea!

Lindsey: No, it’s not.

Jen: Oh come on, don’t look so upset! Clearly Linnea is fine! She’s the one who sent us this story and these photos. And they’re so great! Our producer is posting them right now so you can all go take a look!

Lindsey: Upset? I’m devastated! Heartbroken! I’m outraged!

Jen: Okay, okay. Calm down. We have a new princess! Our prince is married. Lindsey, this is great! Okay, everyone, our new princess is Abigail Landry. She’s from Louisiana and is a super brainiac scientist. How amazing is that? They met at her sister’s wedding. Not the one he was just at, but one a couple of years ago. So this has been going on for two years! That’s so sweet! No wonder he hasn’t dated anyone else! And no wonder he and Linnea haven’t been anything but friends! And…now they’re back! They’re coming home today!

Lindsey: Yeah. But tell them the rest of the news.

Jen: But we should be happy for Torin!

Lindsey: Sure, sure. But what about our happiness?

Jen: It’s not about us!

Lindsey: It should be a little about us! Everyone, we don’t get to have a wedding. They’re getting married today. In Louisiana! Before they come home!

Jen: Yeah, but…we have a new princess! And just look at these photos! She’s beautiful and just look at the way he’s looking at her. He’s clearly in love!

Lindsey: Well, I can admit they are really cute together. Okay, so… Welcome to Cara, Princess Abigail. We can’t wait to meet you, I guess.

Chapter 24

Abigail

“Abigail, do you take Torin to be your husband?” the judge asks twenty-six hours after I told Torin we should get married.

I look up at Torin and my heart does a weird flipping, fast-thumping thing as our gazes meet. I nod, and Torin gives my hands a squeeze and the corner of his mouth curls up. I almost laugh.

“I do.”

Of course I had to say those two words, but the look of pleasure and heat on Torin’s face makes me want to say them again. And to say more.

I might be in trouble here.

Lord knows what this man might get me to say.

“Torin, do you take this woman to be your wife?”

“I do.”

His voice has so much conviction in it, my heart thumps hard again.

Jonah hands me a ring that’s a heavy gold band with purple stones and diamonds much like the one Torin gave me last night. The one that’s…mine. I swallow hard as I slip it on Torin’s finger and for some reason feel tears sting the backs of my eyes. He’s been avoiding these purple stones and diamonds. He’s reluctant to wear even the prince’s crown. But he’s now going to wear what I assume is referred to as the Prince’s Ring as a wedding ring.

Torin simply lifts my hand and presses a kiss to the ring he gave me last night when it’s his turn.

A minute later, the judge says, “By the power given me by the State of Louisiana, I now pronounce you husband and wife.” He smiles. “You may now kiss your bride.”

Torin doesn’t hesitate. He cups my face in both hands and says quietly, “Mine.”

Then he kisses me deeply. Possessively. I feel the way he claims me all the way to my toes. And in several key spots in between my lips and toes.

Finally, Jonah clears his throat and Torin lifts his head. He gives me a wink, squeezes my ass, and says, “Let’s go home, princess.”
