He slides his hands to my ass and squeezes. “Those orgasms really should help my case.”

“Oh, they do. Imagine how hard on you I’d be if you didn’t do that?” I say, grinning up at him.

He laughs.

“And admit it, you like that I’m honest with you and don’t think you’re perfect but like you anyway,” I say.

Something flickers in his eyes, but he nods. “I do like that. I never have to wonder how you feel or what you’re thinking.”

“Never,” I promise.

He pulls me close and wraps his arms around me as my arms go around his neck. He puts his face against my neck. “Some days in this office, thinking about what’s ahead, I miss my dad so fucking much.”

I hug him tightly. “I’m so sorry you’ve had to be without him.”

“You’ve made it better, Abigail.”

My heart gives an extra thump at that. “I have?” That’s…not good. I’m not going to be here long term.

But I can’t deny that hearing I’m helping him makes me feel amazing.

“You’re someone I can talk to. You don’t fit the mold here. You can see outside of these boxes that are generations old. And when it comes to new ideas, instead of asking, ‘should we?’ or saying, ‘it’s never been done that way’, you simply ask, ‘why not?’. I was looking for that, for you, before I even realized it.” He pulls back and looks at me. “You’re the best decision I ever made.”

An emotion I can’t even put a name to rocks through me. I’ve never had anyone say anything like that to me before. I’ve never had anyone look at me the way Torin is looking at me right now.

I swallow hard. “Same,” I tell him honestly. “I’ve never had the support and freedom that you’ve given me. Thank you.”

“Every minute has been my pleasure.”

I kiss him. Just sweetly. Just because I can’t put what I’m feeling into words. I’m not sure I could even if I was good at saying things.

Then I pull back. “And as for this family dinner…I can do this. I already know Cian and Henry. I’ve met your grandfather, grandmother, and mother. And I won’t need to give a speech, right?”

“Definitely not. One on one conversations. And I won’t leave your side.”

I can see that he’s pleased that I’m willing to do this. I think deep down, he wants me to do this, but he won’t ask.

“I’m in.”

“Really?”

“Sure. And meeting Astrid Olsen will be exciting.”

He grins. “Are you going to fangirl and embarrass me?”

“You never know. I’ve held it together around a few royals, but we’re talking about someone who’s really impressive now.”

He laughs and then swats my ass as I step out of his embrace and start for the door.

I shoot him a little smirk over my shoulder.

“I’ll see you later, Princess,” he tells me, watching me leave. “And don’t forget…no new panties. I’ll be checking.”

I step out of his office with a little shiver of heat, and a whole wave of happiness, sweeping through me.
