Finally, I get up and get dressed, in casual clothes this time, and head out. I know the perfect place to go. I can forget about how Abigail is twisting me up and can just relax and have a good time.

Chapter 40

Abigail

Iwake up alone around midnight. I stretch, reaching for Torin. He’s not there and his side of the bed is completely cold. I sit up and stretch. I wince a little too. That sex against the door has me a little sore. But I smile. It was hot. I don't know exactly what came over him, and I'm going to have to ask him about it later. It was like he couldn't wait and he wasn't about to make it soft and sweet, because he just had to have me right then and there.

I smile and stretch and then feel how badly I need a shower. Yes it was definitely hot and messy.

I don’t know where my husband is, but I want to find him. I want more of whatever that was before I fell asleep.

I reach for my phone and text him.

Where are you? I’m two minutes away from reaching for Charming.

That should do it. If he’s downstairs getting a snack or something, he’ll be back up in less than two minutes for sure.

Not that he won’t maybe let Charming be involved…

I grin and wait for either a dirty text in response or for Torin to come storming through the door.

But three minutes later, neither has happened. And there’s no way I can go downstairs like this.

I try calling him instead, wondering if maybe he didn’t hear the ping of the text.

But he doesn’t answer. I frown. That’s strange.

I slide out of bed, grab my robe, and quickly pull it on. I go to the door and pull it open just enough to look up and down the hallway. It’s empty and quiet and I contemplate going down to the kitchen as is. We don’t have guards stationed right outside the doors, of course. But I won’t get far without someone seeing me. The palace is never completely asleep.

Typically I could probably pull on loungewear and go down to the kitchen but I’m a mess and while I’m sure it’s no shock that Torin and I are having sex, I’ll be far too self-conscious if I run into anyone in this state.

I shut the door and chew my bottom lip. I could just go back to bed and wait for him to come back. But I’m now wide awake and sneaking around the dark castle together sounds kind of fun.

I head into the bathroom for a shower. If he gets back before I’m done, I don’t mind the idea of him joining me in there either.

But he’s not back by the time I’m done.

Or by the time I’m dressed in black leggings, a large sweatshirt, and slip-on tennis shoes.

Or by the time I’m opening the door again and sneaking out into the hallway.

I’m not stopped until I hit the second-floor landing.

“Princess Abigail?”

I suck in a sharp breath, my hand flying to my chest as I turn. The security officer approaching is named Sean and I give him a smile. “Hi, Sean.”

“Is everything all right?” he asks.

“Yes. I’m looking for the prince.”

“Oh.” He frowns slightly.

“Have you seen him?”

“I don’t believe he’s back yet.”

“Back?” I repeat. “He left?”
