I think about that. But I smile. "Are you the least lonely person in this country?"

He chuckles. "Sometimes I wish I were a little lonelier."

I laugh. Then I think about the gorgeous genius who became my wife and helped me get to this place. "Things are going to be good,” I promise.

My grandfather shocks me yet again and pulls me in for a quick hug. “Things already are.”

I hug him back, feeling, for the first time, that he truly trusts me with the next steps.

Over his shoulder I spot something that makes my heart stutter.

Abigail is here.

“I…have something I need to do,” I tell him, pulling back.

He glances over his shoulder. “Yes. We have lots of time for talking.”

I nod and immediately move toward her.

She’s wearing a white dress with small pink flowers, tied loosely at her waist. The skirt falls to her calves, stopping just at the top of the hot pink cowboy boots she’s wearing.

This is not a princess dress she got when she came to Cara. This dress came with her. And it’s absolutely perfect.

She looks gorgeous.

And, thankfully, she doesn’t look angry.

She also doesn’t seem to notice that the crowd has already spotted her, and they are whispering and moving closer. Jonah is with her along with a couple of other members of the security team, so no one will get too close, but I still need to get her out of the public eye as soon as possible.

We need to talk.

Without anyone recording it.

“Hi, princess,” I say, arriving at her side in seconds. I loop my arm around her waist and steer her toward the building to our left. “We need to talk.”

“We really do.”

I usher her inside the tiny room at the back of the amphitheater.

I jump right in. "I understand that you saw…everything last night.”

"I did.”

“I'm very sorry I did that."

"So you didn't mean it? You were drunker than you looked? Or you were just caught up in the moment?"

I watch her closely. I realize that this is the moment. This is not at all how I planned it. It is not how I would have done it if I'd had the chance to plan it. But I can no longer keep my feelings inside.

I step closer to her. "I meant every fucking word, princess.”

The little wrinkle between her brows forms. “You did?”

“Of course. I regret telling…everyone…before I told you, though.”

"So you love me?" she asks.

"More than anything. More than I ever imagined I could love someone."
