“You need to start feeling that way.”

“I think it might just be something in your blood. Or maybe something they put in your bottle when you were a baby or something.”

“I’ll have to ask my mother about that.”

“If it is something they can bottle, let me know. I’d like a little bit of that.”

“Would it be worth a fifth dance?” he asks.

Now his eyes are sparkling.

I’ve been around my sister’s sparkling eyes long enough to know that’s trouble. It always means I’ve-got-an-idea-you’ll-maybe-hate-but-I’m-going-to-convince-you-to-go-along-with-it.

“You keep jumping over that third dance,” I say. “You don’t even have that one promised.”

“Don’t I?” He’s leaning in again and now his gaze drops to my lips.

Dammit.

If this confidence is something he could sprinkle in my iced tea, I would really like some.

“Come on, Abigail. You’re going to give me that third dance tonight just for asking, aren’t you?” His voice is low, and I feel goosebumps rippling over my skin. “I’ve waited for two years.”

Finally, I say, “You are going to ask for a third dance?”

He smiles. “I don’t have to ask people for things very often. Most people like to give me things.”

“Oh, I’m sure.” I roll my eyes. I’ll bet women people in particular like to give this guy things. Like their panties.

“But I have a feeling you could be the exception to a few of my rules.”

Yeah, well, I think he could probably get my panties from me pretty easily. I don’t think I’m an exception to that. But I like the idea that I might be different for him in a few ways.

I should not like that.

I lift my hand to the back of my head and feel the braid he did. “How did you…”

Finally, his hands drop away from my shoulders, but it almost feels as if he’s reluctant to stop touching me.

“My sister was a single mom until a couple of years ago. She needed all the extra hands she could get. I’ve known how to do hair since Saoirse was about three.”

I shake my head. “Well, maybe I’ll give you a third dance for this braid.”

He smiles a slow, sexy half-smile. “Nah. I want the third dance just because you want to dance with me.” He steps to the door and holds out his hand. “But let’s go inside and see if I can do something to earn dance five.”

I take a breath as he pulls the door open.

“By the way,” he says as I step past him. “If you’re thinking about using big words and trying to bore me in an attempt to get me to leave you alone…”

I look up at him.

“It’s not going to work.”

I nearly trip over the threshold of my grandma’s side door.

But Torin’s hand is there on my elbow to catch me.
