“Situation?” Fiona pivots on her chair to face me, her eyes wide. “You have a situation?”

I shake my head. “No.”

“Not yet,” Jonah supplies.

I shoot him a frown. That’s not going to help quash Fiona’s nosiness.

“What situation are you going to have?”

“I’ll tell you when I have it,” I say. I frown at the door where Abigail disappeared again.

“He’s here to find a wife,” Jonah says. His smirk says that he’s been very much looking forward to this particular conversation.

And I understand why when I realize that my brother and Henry have just returned to the table.

Like Jonah was to me, Henry was assigned as a bodyguard to Cian immediately after we left Cara. Cian was seventeen, and Henry posed as his best friend, college roommate, and general sidekick. He played the part well. Very well. Sometimes I think Henry forgot it was just a part.

“A wife?” Henry asks, dropping into a vacant chair at the table. “Do tell.” Henry is British, and everything he says sounds pompous, I swear, just because of his accent.

“I’m looking for…” Fuck. I’m not looking for anyone. I’ve found her. She’s the gorgeous blond who just bolted out the back door after dancing with me. Again.

“A princess,” Jonah says. “Or at least someone willing to play the part until your grandfather forgives him for all his past sins.”

Fiona is staring at me with her mouth open.

“So is this a want-ad situation? Or a dating app profile thing?” Henry asks. “Wanted: fair maid to assist beleaguered prince in his quest for a happily ever after.”

“Does she need to have a wicked stepmother, or is that just a bonus?” Cian asks.

“Yeah, we can start looking around for carriages made out of pumpkins, but pretty sure the animal park would have been notified if anyone had run across any talking mice or birds,” Knox adds.

Everyone laughs.

I sigh.

Even Knox is into this. My grumpy, everything-about-the-royal-family-thing-is-kind-of-ridiculous brother-in-law.

“You’re one to talk,” Jonah says to Cian. “Who’s been looking for the girl he had a one-night stand with for over a year now? And you don’t have her shoe, but you do have her keychain or some damned thing, right?”

Cian pats his pocket. “Bracelet.” Then he points to his left bicep. There’s a new tattoo. It’s an elephant holding something in its trunk.

“What is that?” Jonah asks, leaning in.

“It’s the design on the bracelet,” Henry says with an eye roll. “An elephant holding a jewel of some kind. Probably a birthstone. Of course, he has no idea whose birthstone or what it means. It could be this woman’s husband’s birthstone, but he still put it on his body permanently.”

“So after I find her and return the bracelet, I’ll still have it with me,” Cian says.

Henry gives us all a wide-eyed look that I know means he thinks Cian is a little nuts.

Cian is a little…exuberant…about the things he loves, that’s for sure. And this woman has had him knotted up. He’s been searching for her for months. After spending one night with her.

But…

I look toward the back door of Ellie’s again.

Goddammit. I’m starting to understand my little brother’s obsession. I haven’t even slept with Abigail Landry but I know that I’m not going to be able to just leave her alone.

“I’ll see you later,” I tell them all as I shove out of my seat.
