She’s wearing those damned boots the first time I fuck her. Whether she knows it or not.

Another text comes in, but it’s not from Abigail.

It’s my sister.

Fiona: Um…Abigail knows about Linnea.

I scowl at the screen.

There’s nothing to know,

Fiona: Right. Well…

Then she attaches a link to the podcast Wait ’Til I Tell Ye.

I click it despite wanting nothing to do with this. If Fiona thinks there’s something here I need to see, then I’ll look.

The last few episodes have titles like, “Not Just Another Getaway”, “Penthouse to Palace”, “Perfect Proposal Tip #1: Don’t Do It In Shreveport”, and the latest, “Are Those Wedding Bells? They Better Fucking Be”.

My fist tightens around my phone.

Fiona also sent a link to the recent statement from the palace. Part of it reads the royal family already considers Linnea a part of the family.

Just fucking great.

If Abigail thinks I’m with Linnea…

Fuck.

I call Regina back.

“Sir, really?—”

“I need to speak with Lauren. Right now.”

“Of course.”

I think Regina is relieved to have something to do that will allow her to turn me over to someone else immediately.

“Your Highness,” Lauren Davis-Bennett greets.

I’ve told her to call me Torin, but I don’t have time for that right now. “I need Abigail in Shreveport, at the farm site, today.”

“All right,” Lauren says smoothly. She’s used to dealing with politicians and full-of-themselves American businessmen. One demanding prince is nothing. “What should I tell her?”

I’ve told her I don’t want Abigail to know about IAS building this farm with me until I give the word.

“That you’re sending her for business. That no one else can go and that she’ll understand everything when she gets there.”

“She won’t like that,” Lauren says.

“She’ll like it better than the truth at the moment.”

There’s a pause on Lauren’s end. “I have to ask, Torin, will she eventually like the truth?”

I appreciate that Lauren feels protective of Abigail. She was also incredibly impressed with the farm plans I presented her and not surprised to find out that Abigail was the mastermind behind it all. Lauren knows Abigail is special and I like her very much for that alone.

“Lauren, I’m betting everything on Abigail liking the truth eventually.”
