I know they’ve become close friends, but sometimes I think that there’s more to them than they realise. Even though she misses my brother, I wonder if some of the advice she gave me has to do with Ryan too. Jess is still young, and she deserves happiness.

I deserve happiness, and I want to be happy. It had been such a long time since I felt it all the way to my bones. But Henry brought it to life. He made me the happiest I’ve been in so long.

It would be stupid to let him go because he’s not perfect. I’d be insane to condemn him for seeking some kind of justice for his dad, and anyways, I’ve seen the kind of man Alfie’s dad is. The way he treats him is beyond awful, and there’s no doubt that the rest of his family is like that from all the awful things I’ve read about them. They deserved to die. They deserved everything they got.

Grabbing a knife from the drawer, I open the envelope before sitting back at the table. Like with every note I receive, I always start at the first.

And the reasons I love you are endless…

You touched my soul and made it yours.

My chest squeezes as tightly now as it did the first time I read the note. It still makes my heart stutter in the same way every note afterwards made it race with excitement and glee.

And the ways that I love you are many…

Your smile makes me feel a lot less lost.

And the measure of my love for you is immeasurable…

Your laugh reminds me there’s always more to life.

And the depth of my love is limitless…

Your eyes never lie.

And my love for you is brighter than the sun…

Your lips taste like heaven.

And the rhythm of my love for you will echo through eternity…

Your heart always beats in time with mine. (We’re made for each other.)

The words are mesmerising and touching, but it’s the sentiment behind them that really gets to me. This proud and severe man is letting down his walls for me one note at a time. Maybe it’s silly to some, but it’s precious to me. He’s precious to me.

And the gravity of my love is unyielding…

You push all my buttons and never back down when I push back.

And the magnitude of my love is astronomical…

Your sass knows no bounds.

And the force of my love is unshakeable…

Your kindness reminds me there’s hope.

And the tenor of my love is steadfast…

You are the melody to my happiness.

Pulling the new note from its envelope, I’m struggling to contain my tears. At the heart of him, Henry is all that I never knew I wanted or even needed. He’s tough and unmoveable, but he’s also caring and gentle. For the most part, at least.

With my fingertips tracing Henry’s intricate scroll, I read the note slowly, taking in each word with every breath.

And the force of my love is insurmountable…

There’s nothing truer. Everything about Henry is forceful, but his love is the strongest of all.
