“You mean he has to you.”

Dante exhaled, shaking his head. “He’d be happy to include you on those conversations if you’d consider talking to him.”

“And I don’t give a fuck. Okay?” The tension was the same between us every time we talked about Emmanuel. Maybe it was because I’d refused to acknowledge he was a blood relation.

“As I said, hardheaded. I did find some information on the tattoo from the picture you sent me.” He was blowing off the usual argument we had regarding Emmanuel because he knew he couldn’t win.

“Was Ivan correct in that it’s a special tattoo for those willing to die for the cause?”

“Yeah. He’s correct and according to the information I was able to discover, the numbers of these members are growing,” Dante said. He was as irritated as I was.

“Let me guess. It’s a brand-new universal group that doesn’t conform to anyone’s rules or have a direct affiliation.”

“Not brand new. It’s entirely possible they’ve been lurking in the shadows for twenty plus years. Some say the Russian Bratva started it, but a significant number of members can be found in… you can fill in the blanks.”

Which meant South America and Mexico.

“Get this. They are highly skilled, the rumor that the upper echelon of the group are former United States military, KGB and MI6 members to name a few. They are supposedly well funded, secretive, and have no headquarters.”

Upon Dante’s suggestion, we’d expanded our network even beyond what the Brotherhood had, able to find out almost anything about anyone.

“Meaning they move around depending on the situation,” I said casually.

Dante laughed. “You expected this.”

“Let’s just say with the pullback Mexico has indicated on distribution of fentanyl into the US, I suspect they’re turning their attention to other countries. South America is an obvious choice. From there, they can use whatever port in the southern part of the US they want.”

“Canada is another good guess. All of this is being fueled by rumors and word on the street. But the identities of the men and women in this secretive organization are a best kept secret,” he continued.

“Interesting.”

“Disturbing and I think it’s something we should discuss with the Brotherhood.”

Perhaps he was right. The strength of the alliance might prove to be helpful.

“Agreed. Maybe I’ll make a call to our Russian friend and see what he knows.”

“Okay. I’ll contact Constantine, putting him on notice. He can coordinate with the other members of the Brotherhood on what they know and where to go from there.”

“Good. Who are hiring these people?” I asked, even more irritated at the game than before.

“Well, if rumor is correct, they’re upstanding citizens including politicians, military entities, and even corporate moguls along with various crime syndicates and cartels. They are gaining power, branching out. Again, just a rumor but it’s something we need to pay attention to.”

“Yeah, we do.” Dante had slowly convinced me that going legit was in our best interest, which we’d done other than the typical party favors and of course using certain levels of blackmail and extortion to our benefit. Illegal gambling was also our bread and butter on the two cruise ships, but we were finished with the backroom shit my father had started long before Dante had reentered the family fold.

“Look, I don’t like you being up there, bro. I have a bad feeling it’s nothing more than a trap.”

“It could be. Keep your ear to the ground. We’ll talk in a couple days. I might need you up here. It is a breathtaking place to be.”

“Just let me know. But you need to watch your back.”

“I plan on it. At least it’s nice to get away,” I said, although a portion of my statement was a lie. I closed my eyes, images of Sabrina filtering into my mind. “Besides, I have something to keep me occupied.” I’d decided not to see the girl again or maybe we’d both made that decision indirectly. However, my cock thought otherwise. I was even debating heading to the same bar to see if I could find any additional information on her. Smart? Maybe not, but I didn’t give a shit. What I wanted I took.

“Hmmm… Well, then maybe the time away will soften you, brother. Who knows. Maybe you’ll find your muse, which could lead to a better mood.”

I lifted my middle finger, both of us laughing. He’d accused me of being a grumpy son of a bitch more than once. Granted, he was right in that I’d fallen into a level of darkness that haunted me most nights and often during the day. I’d had a feeling my past was coming back to haunt me and I hadn’t been able to put my finger on exactly why.

Other than I’d thought of the young girl I’d saved more than once, as if she was some catalyst I’d missed all those years ago.
