As if he owned me.

“What… How did you… You bastard.” Unable to finish the sentence, I swallowed hard, trying to think about an escape route. Why bother asking. He was a goddamn criminal. He could get inside any location he wanted, locked or otherwise. I dared to look in his direction; the bathroom light barely added any illumination to his features, but I could sense the wave of electricity shooting through us. He was aroused as well as enraged.

A dangerous combination.

I, on the other hand, would only admit to being furious with him. For lying to me. For deceiving me. For breaking into my goddamn house.

He chuckled as darkly as he’d done inside the bar just moments before he’d… spanked me. A series of icy chills shifted down my back. I had my personal handgun inside the closet on the top shelf. Had he gone through all my things or just my underwear drawer?

He’d reclined in the overstuffed chair I’d purchased from a thrift shop, and as he moved his hand, I could swear I was able to notice a glint of steel from a weapon.

My weapon to be exact.

I was able to see the curve of his angular jaw, his voluptuous lips and his long fingers. He was gorgeous, dangerous, and the single man I needed to stay the hell away from.

“If you’re asking how I found out who you are, I assure you that no law enforcement officer in this entire country can keep me from learning what I want to know. I have access to every secure database, both criminal and those inside the most secure agencies in the world.”

The fucker was gloating, but I had a feeling he was telling me the truth.

“Not only did you keep your true identity from me, but I also missed seeing you. Tasting you. Fucking you.”

Dear God, the soft velvet of his deep baritone was enough to send a wave of heat straight to my core, my pussy throbbing. I’d never felt so naked and exposed around anyone, the vulnerability extreme.

The danger even higher.

I folded my arms across my chest, shivering as I tried to keep the towel clasped around me. The realization that even if I screamed, no one would be able to hear me created a rapid wave of terror.

Leaning forward, he placed the weapon on the bedside table before rising to his feet, his actions forcing a clipped moan to escape my mouth.

“You’ve been a very bad girl, sweet Sabrina Rose, but you already know that, don’t you?”

“Get out now, Diego. If you go willingly, I’ll consider not arresting you.”

“Is that a threat, my lovely possession? I think that’s beneath you.” He took another step closer and I took a deliberate one backward, my heart pounding in my chest.

“It’s exactly what’s going to happen, Mr. Santos, although you wanted the world to believe you were Diego Fernandez. Isn’t that the last name of your brother, your twin brother who now helps you run a powerful albeit criminal empire in the heart of Los Angeles? Although you do own a beautiful house right on the beach in San Diego, don’t you?” I dared evoke his additional anger, tapping an index finger across my lips, even managing to sway my hips back and forth.

He took a deep breath, holding it for several seconds before taking his time expelling it. Then he shifted his heated gaze all the way down to my toes, lingering for a few seconds before sliding his lust-filled eyes toward my hips and breasts. When he licked his lips, issuing a single growl, I was ready to rip out his eyeballs with my fingers.

“Very good, Sheriff. I can see you’ve done your homework. I’m proud of you. However, it’s time that we have a nice, long chat.”

“I don’t fucking think so. I’m going to arrest you.”

His laugh skittered through me like wildfire.

He crossed the room within seconds, gripping both my wrists and dragging me against the heat of his body.

“No. No! Let go of me, you horrible man.” I struggled but could tell by the way his fingers were digging into my arms that I was going nowhere. A moment of terror swept through my system, but I knew I had to think clearly in order to get the hell away from him.

“Hmmm… Not until I’m finished with you. What you might not have realized, sweet, precious Sabrina, is that no one crosses either me or my family without paying a significant price.”

“I didn’t cross you. You’re the one who’s in my town for nefarious purposes.”

He dragged me onto my toes, lowering his head until our lips were far too close together. I wanted to turn away, to refuse him the satisfaction of knowing that he was making me nervous, but it was completely impossible. I was far too aroused, my nipples aching from his touch.

And from the desire that had never left from two nights before.

“Yes, you are a very bad girl and one who needs to learn that fighting me isn’t in your best interest.”
