Eden

I can’t believe I got off to this animal.

Because that’s exactly what he was. A sickening bastard who thought he could just do and take whatever he wanted.

And even though he didn’t deserve another ounce of my fucking time, I knew what he was capable of. He had money, power, and influence; and he’d done his research on me, sure. But I had done just as much research on him. And the results weren’t good.

I knew what he did for a living. I knew what he was capable of bringing down upon my entire family’s head if I didn’t play my cards right. I’d never be able to afford him, monetarily at least. However, as much as I hated the words that fell from his lips, it was a payment I could stomach.

If the terms around it were right.

“I have a question before I leave,” I said stepping back.

His grin made me want to slap him directly across his face. “Of course. Negotiations are half the fun.”

I gripped my purse to keep from lunging at him. “You don’t even like me. Why would you want to go away with me?”

He shrugged. “You asked for my terms, and I gave them to you.”

“Yes, but I also know what you’re capable of doing. If you really wanted to sink me and my sister in the media, you would’ve already done it. You wouldn’t have spent your weekend researching me. You would have spent your weekend plotting our demise.”

“What makes you think I’m incapable of doing both?”

I took a step toward him. “The fact that you’re entertaining this conversation.”

“Disliking someone and yet still wanting to fuck them are two very different things, Ms. Rochere.” He stalked toward me, his shadow cloaking me away from the world. “And if it isn’t clear yet, I want to fuck you.”

I swallowed hard and took a few steps back before he reached for me, grabbing my wrist in the process. I squeaked as he whipped me around, pinning me to a wall in a direction I had long since lost as I studied his eyes.

His brooding, powerful, icy blue eyes.

“And because I can, Miss Rochere,” he glowered, “because you’re the kind of woman who swears she can’t be bought. It was written on your face the night we met, and it’s written all over the choices you’ve made that have led you to this point. But we all have a price, Miss Rochere. And I intend to show you yours.”

I snickered. “So, what? This is about control? All of this pomp and circumstance just to prove that you can get what you want, no matter what?”

He pressed his hips into mine and I felt his growing thickness. “Among other things.”

I have to do this for Emily. She won’t survive otherwise.

“Three trips,” I said.

He grinned. “There are seven on my docket this year.”

“I won’t be doing seven of anything with you.”

“Then, counter with another offer. Or do you not understand how this process works?”

My eyes narrowed. “Four.”

“Seven.”

I shook my head. “I won’t go a single digit above four.”

He smirked. “Not even for sister dearest?”

I reached down and cupped his dick, feeling him jump against my palm. “Five, and that’s my final offer. Take it, or I’ll see you in court.”
