I chew at the inside of my lip a second not wanting to be Debbie Downer here, but at the same time, they need to know what I know. “But we do. The original copy is still on my phone in my locker at work. When I go to work tomorrow, please come with me and I’ll give it to you, phone and all.” I look at my hands and then back at them. “And the SD card I took when I broke into your other place. I’ll give that to you as well. But I have to know. Why was my brother kidnapped from inside your penthouse? It makes no sense.”

Ryth’s lips peel back into a smile. “I wondered what you managed to find. I didn’t think about the security.”

“You were too busy chasing me.”

He reaches between my breasts and loosens the towel. “Something like that.” The playful glint in his eyes says he doesn’t want to answer my question.

“Ryth?”

He sighs heavily.

“We had to make your brother disappear so he could do the job of taking down the Finelys. There are moles in every organization, and we had to make it look like he was ending his term with us if you know what I mean.”

I gulp. I am not sure what kind of answer I expected, but it was not that. “I do.”

Alaric nods. “The rest you already know.”

“I can see why he didn’t want to tell me anything.”

Ryth removes my hands from the edge of the towel. “He loves you almost as much as we do.” There’s a dark glittering of rage in the shadows of his eyes as he falls to his knees and wraps his strong, protective hands around my waist. I can feel the heat of his touch seep through me, meld with my soul and calm me.

Alaric and Marco join him and they all three caress, kiss, and love me until I can barely breathe from the number of emotions pouring out of them.

I join them on the floor and wrap my arms around their necks and connect gazes with first Ryth, then Alaric. Marco. “I love you. I don’t know how that is possible, but I can’t imagine going back to my husk of a life where I only waited for life to happen to me.”

I’m left leveled from all the emotions I find staring back at me.

“We are only sorry we waited so long to bring you into our lives. The darkness…it’s not for everyone.” Marco moves strands of fallen hair from my face.

My eyes slip closed, and I feel strong fingers over my cool skin. “I’m not going anywhere,” I state simply.

“Starting with work tomorrow.” Alaric lifts me from the floor, and I am settled over his lap. He’s leaning against the couch at his back, a youthful but arrogant grin on his face.

“Excuse me.”

His eyes caress the swaying globes of my breasts, my trim waist, and my thick, womanly curves as I move over top of him. “No queen of ours slings beer in a pub. Those fuckers can find someone else to pour their suds. You’re ours and as of right now your throne and crown, as invisible as they are, are nonetheless real. You work for no one. Because you are the fucking boss. Welcome to our dark reign.”

EPILOGUE

NYX, ONE CRAZY WHIRLWIND OF A YEAR LATER

As of today, it’s been a year since I found my new life, and nearly lost it in the span of twenty-four hours. That night Ryth, Marco, and Alaric made love to me long into the afternoon and night. The next day each of them presented me with a ring of promise—three gold bands when melded together form the words: anima nostra. Our soul.

They knew about me for four years and fell in love with me, protecting me from afar.

Something primal in them spoke to something just as raw and magnetic inside me. It’s the only way I can think to explain how I instantly knew they were for me.

Love really can happen instantly. I’m proof of it. My whole life I grew up believing the kind of love in the movies was made up fiction.

Turns out, if you look beyond what you think you know, magic can happen. Does happen. It did for me.

It’s almost Christmas time and I’m eager to get home and set up the tree. I ordered a fresh one and I can’t wait to smell the pine.

It’s time for a little bit of truth talk. I’m a sucker for the holidays. If you have the right connections, you can be hooked up with an eight-foot Douglas before anyone else. It’s six weeks until Christmas and I want a repeat of last year early. I’ve learned in this life you take what you want and don’t apologize. Just like my men did with me.

They knew what they wanted and didn’t stop until I said yes. My first Christmas with my Lords slipped by in a whirl of naked chaos. I didn’t put on anything except for a robe when I cooked bacon that one time they let me out of bed long enough to cook.

Their excuse was sweet and makes me smile even today. Their queen didn’t work and that included cooking.
