With Casey cornered.

Casey looks ready to cry as Krista gestures to all of her—which looks great, by the way. When Casey looks away, Krista grabs her face. It’s a bold public move.

That pisses me the fuck off.

“Oh, hell fucking no,” I hiss.

My heels click like thunder over the concrete rooftop in the power walk to end all power walks. I earn myself a few sharp glares as I shoulder my way through the crowd, but I don’t care. They can kiss my ass.

When I get to them, I grab Krista’s arm, shoving her away from Casey. “Get your fucking hands off her.”

Krista turns beet red, getting in my face with her devilish finger pointed. “Mind your business. This is between my daughter and me.”

“Well, now it’s between you and me.” I look at Casey. “Are you okay?” She nods, but I can see she’s far from it. She’s embarrassed and hurt. “Go wash your face before your dad gets back up here,” I tell her softly, knowing she wouldn’t want Liam to see her so upset and start asking questions.

Krista tries to go after her, but I grab her arm again. “I don’t think so.” Her mouth opens, but I cut her off. “For the record, she is my business. She is my best friend.”

“Right. Some friend. You used her so you could fuck her dad. Who, by the way, will come running back to me the minute I snap my fingers.” She snaps her fingers in the air and smirks.

This bitch… I can’t help but laugh at her high school mean girl theatrics. “We both know that isn’t true, now don’t we, Krista? But it explains where Casey came up with the idea.” I look her up and down, disgust tugging my lips, but the violent urges have faded. She’s not worth my time, energy, or oxygen. But I will give her a warning. She’s underestimated me. And she’s hurt the people I love for too long. “Stay away from Casey, Krista. Do you think you have power and influence because you married Maxwell Davis? Keep terrorizing her, and I will show you who holds the power.”

“Do you think you’re the only one who can work social media? Hashtag Lily Martin is a bully has a nice ring to it.”

“Hmm.” I grin. “But can you prove it like I can?”

Her smile falters. Red tinges her cheeks. But I’m over her.

I look around, trying to find which way Casey went. My brows shoot to my forehead when I spot her, wrapped in Graham Davis’s arms as he strokes her hair and leads her somewhere.

What the… Oh, I am not touching that with a ten-foot pole. I see nothing.

Krista grabs my arm, turning me back to her with her finger in my face again. “You listen to me, you fucking slut.”

My eyes travel behind her, and a wide smile breaks across my face. She doesn’t finish whatever she was about to say, instead turning around, meeting Liam’s glare. You wouldn’t think a man on crutches would intimidate, but let’s face it. He’s six feet six inches and two hundred seventy-five pounds of solid muscle. Of course, he’s intimidating. Throw in the six-foot-three green-eyed mass standing behind him, and yep, they look deadly. Liam would never touch her. Henry… eh, I’m not so sure lately. But that’s not what scares her about them, anyway.

“Damn, even outside, your stench is powerful,” Henry tells her while Liam rolls his eyes and shakes his head. She stomps off with a huff.

“What happened?” Liam asks.

“She was hurting Casey.”

My previous thoughts that he would never touch her fly out the window. He looks absolutely murderous right now. “What do you mean, hurting?” His eyes dart around, looking for her. I am so very thankful she’s not still standing there with Graham. Tonight is not the night, Satan.

But I tell him what I saw, and his eyes grow darker with each word. Krista might need to be the one to stay away from the roof’s edge.

Henry grabs his shoulder and whispers something. Whatever it is, seems to calm him as he drops an arm around my shoulder and kisses my temple, then nods to where Sons of Sin have taken the stage. It’s obvious it’s not to perform but to present a united front since they’ve battled a few rumors since Ryder and Maddox bought the label.

The moment Maddox reaches the microphone, without a word, gesture, or anything else, the entire crowd goes silent.

I want to be him when I grow up.

He shoves his hands into his pockets and speaks. “Six months ago, we took over the label. In those six months, we’ve signed several new promising artists, produced fifteen full albums, and promoted three tours. Not too shabby for newbies, yeah?” Everyone laughs, but it’s no secret. Maddox may be new at owning a label, but he’s far from it with music or business.

“But our goal was, is, and always will be making great music,” Ryder adds when he steps forward. “Our album drops in July, and we, along with Jacob’s Ladder and Lily Martin, will be on tour for six weeks, and since we can’t run a business from a tour bus…”

“You can’t,” Maddox mutters, looking insulted.

Ryder rolls his eyes. “We’re not bringing out the other six personalities because Daddy doesn’t want to share his new toy.”
