“Get up, Rylee. You’re coming with me. If you do so without giving me any further trouble, then your father lives. If you don’t, then I’m afraid I’ll need to take out your disobedience on him first. Do you understand me?”

“What I understand is that you’re a monster and you won’t get away with this.” I struggled to stand, my pulse in my throat. I called out to the men I loved in my mind, praying they would find me in time, that they would once again save me from the horrors of this man.

“I’ll accept that. I do so love being called a monster by a beautiful woman. Isn’t that true, Kyle?”

The man not holding my father burst into practiced laughter. “Yes, sir. You are a brutal savage.”

“What do you want with me? You and your boy, Declan. You did this. You sabotaged my father’s operation.”

There was a strange look in Madden eyes, as if hearing the name pushed him over an imaginary edge.

“Are you coming with me willingly or should I put a bullet in your father’s brain right now? It’s up to you, but you have three seconds to decide. Three.”

He paused and I glanced at my father, whose imploring eyes were telling me to fight.

“Two,” Madden continued, his upper lip curling at both corners.

“Bastard,” I said, the ache inside crippling.

“One.”

“No! I’ll go with you. Just don’t hurt my father. Do not touch him.” My cries sounded foreign, my mind blurry from the panic I felt. My heroes weren’t coming to save me after all.

“Excellent. Then come, my sweet girl. We need to spend some time getting to know each other.”

“Not so fast.”

The voice I heard I recognized, but the tone was entirely different.

As I glanced toward the door leading to the kitchen, shock tore through me. “You!” Declan had a weapon pointed at the group of men. I was ready to fly in his direction, tearing out his eyes with my fingernails. “You did this.”

Madden started to laugh until several other men entered the room, all in uniforms.

“Madden Byrne,” one of them I’d never seen before said. “I can’t tell you how much of a pleasure it is to be meeting you under these circumstances. And may I be the first one to tell you that you’re under arrest. Release the man in your hold. Now.”

There were at least ten weapons pointed at the three men and the moment the bastard holding my father put up his hands in surrender, I raced toward him. “Daddy!”

As I wrapped my arms around his shaking body, I suddenly felt more than one presence surrounding me.

“You’re safe now.”

It was Jack’s voice, the deep and penetrating sound pulsing in my ears.

“We’re going to take care of you,” Hudson said as he wrapped one arm around me.

And in the light in front of me was Foxx’s anxiety-riddled face, but his eyes were dancing in the harsh light, his lips pursed as he studied me as he’d done so many times.

I was aware the various members of law enforcement were reading the three thugs their rights, putting them into handcuffs in preparation of dragging them away, but all I cared about was that my father was safe.

As well as the three men I’d fallen in love with were right here, preparing to keep me safe from all danger.

Just like they’d done so many times before.

“I’m okay, honey. I’m just fine,” my father said, gently pushing away from me.

“Mr. O’Rourke. We need to check you out.”

Two paramedics moved closer, both men smiling.
