What was the saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me? Oh, hell, no.

Why was it that I hadn’t been able to get them off my mind or push aside the attraction I felt for all three of them? Looney tunes. Looney tunes.

Great. Now my inner voice was making fun of me.

“Come on. Don’t keep me in suspense. On a scale of one to ten, how high do these three men go?”

“Fifteen,” I said honestly, which was another shocker. I dragged my tongue across my bottom lip and sensed my sister was watching me like a hawk.

“Wowzer. You really did sleep with all three of them?”

“Yup,” I snapped, popping the p for the second time that day.

“I have no clue what to say other than lucky dog.”

“You have a boyfriend. What are you talking about?”

“Eh, not so much lately. Besides, I don’t have three men.” She laughed against until she realized I was making a choking sound. “You like them. Don’t you?”

“Like? Not a chance in hell. I can’t stand them. They’re dickweeds. The kind of trouble I don’t need. If I had to guess, I’d say they’ll sabotage the entire operation.”

“Yep. It’s settled. You like them. As I said, consider it friends with benefits. You’re a big girl. Go fuck your brains out like bunnies.”

I gave her my middle finger and I thought she was going to fall onto the floor. “I need to stay away from them. How am I supposed to do that?”

“You can’t and if I had to guess, I’d say you don’t want to. You’re a lucky ducky girl. Have fun. You only live once.”

“Don’t remind me.”

Why did I have a feeling I was headed into yet another nightmare?

CHAPTER 12

Hudson

“The man is a con artist and he’s way too possessive of our girl,” I said as I slammed the door to the hotel room.

I noticed the look Jack gave Foxx, both men wearing total amusement.

“Our girl?” Jack asked in one of his funny little voices. He was sitting at the table in Foxx’s room, his feet up and a drink in his hand. That was his usual stance.

“Where the fuck did you go?” Foxx asked, the twinkle in his eye almost pissing me off. He was busy looking through the employee files Sean had provided, the few things he’d told me about their conversation weighing heavily on my mind. The man was on death’s door, doing a Hail Mary to try to protect his remaining family.

We’d spent the remainder of the day before since the infamous meeting putting a plan together before heading to the rig Mr. O’Rourke owned. I’d done a cursory look at the financials, instantly realizing the rigging side of the company was in bad shape. Even the brother’s construction company had taken a hit. There certainly was no additional money lying around for new equipment or additional riggers. That had been easy to see.

I couldn’t say I blamed the man for attempting to do anything he could to bring them out of the hole, but he needed to understand that one good gig wasn’t going to turn things around. Plus, I was pretty certain whoever was attempting to sabotage the business would continue doing so. Unless the bastard was stopped.

“I found Declan’s address. I went to his house. The shit from yesterday bothered the crap out of me.” I paced the floor, thinking about what I’d seen.

“Why would you do that?” Jack asked, as if he really didn’t care.

“Because he was possessive of our girl!”

“First of all,” Foxx said as he walked closer. “I doubt Rylee would want to hear you call her ‘our’ girl since she made it pretty damn clear she wants nothing to do with us.”

“Hog-fucking-wash,” I said and the other two burst into laughter.

“Is that how they talk back in your hometown, country boy?” Jack mused.
