At my house by the bay, I walk into my bedroom, excitement bubbling inside me as I think about the evening ahead. Tonight will be fun, for sure. It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve had a carefree night out, and the idea of spending it with the funnest person I know is even more enticing.

My eyes wander over to my closet, landing on the slinky black dress I picked up in New York last spring. It’s just hanging there, waiting to be worn.

It’s elegant yet sexy, the kind you wear around a man whose eye you want to catch.

It’s wrong, but I can’t help it. I want Felix to see me in the dress and be dazzled by me.

Biting my lip, I remind myself that this isn’t a date. We’re friends, nothing more. Felix has a reputation for being a player, and that’s not the kind of man I need to get involved with.

Still, that doesn’t mean I can’t wear the dress. And it has been sitting in my closet for months, so it would be a crime to not take it for a spin.

I slip into the dress, its silky fabric draping perfectly over my body. As I look in the mirror, I admire the way it accentuates my curves and compliments my dark blond hair.

Already feeling better about myself, I add a pair of simple silver earrings and matching heels. A touch of lipstick, and I’m done. It’s casual but stunning — the perfect balance for tonight’s adventure.

As I wait for Felix to arrive, my thoughts drift back to our past encounters. The laughter we’ve shared, the deep conversations late into the night, and the undeniable chemistry that seems to spark whenever we’re together. Despite his playboy reputation, I know there’s genuine kindness and depth beneath that charming exterior. It’s one of the reasons I consider him a true friend, someone I can trust and care for deeply.

At eight o’clock on the dot, Felix’s car pulls up outside my house, and I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the night ahead. Meg did say I need some adventure in my life. So here I go.

Closing the front door behind me, I step into the cool night air, ready to embrace whatever adventures await.

He’s getting out of his car as I head down the front steps, and I don’t miss the way his eyes widen when they land on me.

Excitement flutters through me. A second later, though, and whatever reaction he had is gone. Either it was short-lived, or he’s trying to hide it.

“You look great,” he says.

“Thank you. You, too.”

I’m not kidding. Even though he’s dressed casually, he looks like a million bucks. His jeans and button-up shirt fit him perfectly, and his designer sneakers are so clean they look like they just came out of the box.

And his scent? Don’t even get me started. He smells so good my knees are going weak.

“Thanks for coming out tonight.” He hurries to open the car door for me, and even though this isn’t a date, it’s already feeling an awful lot like one.

“So.” I turn to him as he steers the car onto the road. “What are we doing tonight?”

He grins in that wicked, classic Felix way. “We’re going to paint the town red.”

I roll my eyes and laugh. “With you? Of course we are.”

As we weave through the city, laughter and conversation fill the car. The tension from earlier seems like a distant memory now, replaced by the thrill of spontaneity and the warmth of Felix’s presence. The bond we share as friends has always been something special, and I’m grateful for it tonight more than ever.

Our first stop is a chic cocktail bar with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of the skyline. The bartender greets Felix with a nod, clearly familiar with him, and mixes us up martinis.

Taking a seat on a couch in the corner, we clink our glasses together.

“To tonight,” I say.

“And to what comes next.” He sips his drink, but I study him. Why did that sound so suggestive?

As we enjoy our drinks, Felix regales me with stories of his latest trips and tennis matches.

A few drinks in, he grows quiet, his gaze serious. “Lily, I’ve been thinking…”

“Uh-huh?” I munch on one of the olives we’ve ordered. Three drinks have gone to my head. Like always, I’m having trouble keeping up with Felix.

“My parents have come down on me pretty hard about cleaning up my act. They want me to get married and start a family, something I think you could help me out with.”
