“Hello there, Ladies! Welcome to Whispering Meadows!”

“Ohhh, look at him!”

“This is going to be a good week.”

“Wowza, I thought the ranch was supposed to be the experience, not the rancher.”

So, it’s going to be one of those stays. Over the years, I’ve found there are two kinds of people. Some are happy to enjoy the pleasures of the ranch. Some women think I’m the main attraction, and I spend the week being chased around like I’m the last available man on Earth. I was hoping for the former this week.

“Ladies! Hello! I am Roberta, the house manager and chef. First, we will have you come into the house and get you checked into your rooms. You can take your stuff to your room, get settled, and then return to the dining room for lunch. After lunch, we’ll give you a tour.”

“I’ve got all I need right here!” A woman came up beside me and looped her arm through mine.

“Haha. That's very funny. Come on, I’ll help you with your bag,” I chuckle.

“Oooh, can you help with mine next?” Another woman winks at me.

“Here, let me help.” Ava steps in.

“Ladies, I can load your bags onto this cart and deliver them to your rooms.” Kenny appears on the front porch with a luggage cart.

“Ladies, this is Kenny. My ranch hand. He’s a great help.”

“And he’s mine, so don’t get any ideas unless you want to eat burnt toast all week,” Roberta chimes in cheerily.

Kenny and I got the luggage to the rooms while Roberta and Trina got the ladies checked in. They are flirty, but they do seem like they will be a fun group.

The women start to trickle upstairs to their rooms. I’m heading back down when the woman who looped her arm through mine corners me.

“Hi again. We haven’t been formally introduced. I’m Barbara. You can call me Barb, or Barbie, or Baby. Whatever you prefer,” she says in a sultry voice.

“Barbara. Ok, I’ll remember that. Now, if you’ll excuse–”

“I thought you were coming to my room. I wanted to give you a proper introduction.”

“I was just in there! No time now; lunch is almost ready. And Roberta does not like it when people are late for a meal.” I weasel out of the way quickly. I will need to think of a better tactic to brush her off.

Back in the living room, which also serves as our lobby, Ava and Roberta are chatting.

“Well, this is a loud bunch!” Roberta says when she sees me.

“Loud and flirty,” I say.

“Yeah, you should have heard what they said about you when you walked upstairs,” Ava says.

“I don’t want to know.”

“They’re harmless. Travis is used to this. All the women love him! What’s not to love?” Roberta brushes my arm.

“Yeah, an unforeseen part of my job is to flirt back tastefully with older women.”

“Maybe that’s why they keep coming back,” Ava says.

Out of nowhere, I feel someone grab my butt. I turn to see Barbara standing there.

“There’s more where that came from.” She winks and walks toward the dining room.

“Did that woman just grab your butt?” Ava asks, shocked.
