“Why didn’t Brynn come get it herself?”

“Because I told her not to, and she has the capacity for great obedience,” I say, mostly just to annoy her.

It works. “Ugh, I fucking hate you.”

“Well, try to get over that feeling because Brynn wanted me to invite you and Ryan to what she’s calling Double Ryan night.”

“What is Double Ryan night?”

“A double date with you and Ryan where we watch a double feature of Ryan Gosling movies. I expect there will also be dinner and/or snacks.”

Her eyebrows rise again, this time with interest, and she cocks her head in consideration. “I don’t hate it. Is Ryan in?”

“I haven’t asked yet, but I’m sure he will be.”

“And when is this happening?”

“Probably this coming weekend. We wanted to check everyone’s schedule before we firmed up a date.”

“I’m free all weekend, so any day works for me.”

“Cool. I’ll ask Ryan, and I’m sure Brynn will let you know the final details as soon as we do.”

“All right.” She turns around and opens the second cabinet they seem to be using as closets, the one on her roommate’s side. She grabs Brynn’s things and brings them over to me. “I started her closet just in case,” she tells me.

“Uh-huh.” I grab Brynn’s coat and bundle it around her bag.

“Wait,” she says, holding up a finger and walking over to the vacant desk on the empty side of her room. She grabs a clear, frosted shower caddy packed full of shit and walks back over. “You can give this to her, too. It’s her Zeta welcome kit, for when she moves in with me.” She smiles sweetly and holds it out for me to take.

I meet her gaze levelly and take the damn thing. “She isn’t moving in with you.”

“We’ll see.”

I have half a mind to tell her to stop trying to entice Brynn to join this fucking sorority, but with Addison, I expect that will lead to an argument, and I don’t want to waste time arguing with her when I still have shit to do and Brynn waiting for me at home.

When I leave the sorority house, I head back to campus.

I’m supposed to meet Sloane at the athletic center, but since I went to the house first, she texts me to let me know she already left. She’s at the library, so I tell her to wait outside and I’ll pick her up.

Sloane is always polished, so I’m not surprised when I pick her up and her blonde hair is pulled back in a fancy ponytail, not a single strand out of place. She likely just finished working out, but her makeup is perfect and she’s wearing a pair of dangly earrings.

“Hey,” she says, flashing me a smile as she slides into the passenger seat and pulls the door closed.

“Hey,” I say back. Then I nod to the cupholder between us. “I brought you a coffee.”

“Aw, thank you,” she says, reaching for it and wrapping her hands around the cup as if for warmth. “Really excited about the weather. I’m going to turn into an icicle tonight.”

I crack a faint smile as I turn the wheel and head for the exit. “Yeah, a little warmer would have been nice.”

“This will help keep me awake though,” she says lightly, before taking a small test sip to see how hot it is.

She’s helping Dare out with something tonight, so we go for a ride and I show her the route, pointing out where she needs to end up.

“Should I call him when we get here?”

“Absolutely not. Don’t even bring your phone with you. Leave it at home.”

Her eyes widen slightly. “But what if something goes wrong?”
