My eyes darted around my classroom as if I was expecting to see someone lurking in the shadows just waiting to see Zach and me together. I immediately realized it was foolish, and I looked back at Zach.

“It’s more than okay. I was just sitting here thinking about you and missing you, and then you appeared. I didn’t think I was going to see you at all this weekend.”

“I know, and I’m sorry about that. I didn’t want to go that long without seeing you, so I decided to come and spend a few minutes together. I figured if no one was around, we could be alone, and no one would know.”

“It’s late; there shouldn’t be anyone around. I wish Mom hadn’t caused another scandal,” I said, shaking my head.

“She’s going to do what she’s going to do. You can’t let her actions dictate your life.”

“I’m not. Really. I’m just annoyed with her. Though it made me realize she’s never going to stop, and if I wait for her to do the right thing, it’s never going to happen.”

“Okay.”

I could tell he wasn’t sure what I was getting at or what I was trying to say to him. I wasn’t completely sure myself as I had only come to realize it when I saw him in my classroom. I knew that I wanted him to come and see me at the end of my day. I wanted him to know my friends and for them to know him. I wanted to be able to be seen in public with him, to have a true real relationship with him, and I couldn’t do that if we were hiding all the time.

“There’s still a lot that you have to work out with your business and the reality show and everything, but when you are ready, and once my tenure is secure, I don’t want us to hide anymore. I want us to be together, like really together. Where we are seen together and people know about us,” I said.

“Really? Do you mean it?” Zach asked.

“Yes. I do. Don’t get me wrong, the last couple of weeks have been fun with us sneaking around. It certainly added a bit of excitement to a relationship that I never had before, but it isn’t everything. I want everything with you, or at least to see what that could mean. And we can’t do that if we are hiding who we are and what we mean to each other.”

“I couldn’t agree more. I wanted to bring you flowers today, but I knew I couldn’t because I wasn’t sure how it would look. I hate that. I want us to be truly together too. The negotiations for the show should be done about the same time you hear that you got your tenure, and I know you will get it. When those happen, I want to take you out, on a real date, where I pick you up at your house with flowers and bring you home at night. I want to walk down the street holding your hand and more if I want to.”

“Zach, that sounds wonderful. I would love that. I want all of that too.”

“Then we will have it soon. I promise.” He took my hands in his.

“You’re so incredible. I have no idea how I got so lucky as to have you in my life. You have been so patient and understanding about everything, and it means the world to me.”

“Well, you mean the world to me.” He pulled me closer.

“I’m gonna miss you this weekend.”

“The feeling is mutual,” he replied and ran his nose along my earlobe.

“I wish we were at my place right now. I have a few ideas of what I would like to do with you.”

Zach leaned back and gave me a wicked smile. “Why don’t you show me what you have in mind?”

The look in his eyes told me he was deadly serious, and it made me feel sexier and more desired than I had ever felt. It was reckless and unlike anything I’d ever done, but at that moment, all I cared about was Zach and being with him.

“Lock the door,” I said.

Chapter 20

Zach

“He will see me, and you can’t stop me!” my father’s angry voice yelled from the other side of my office.

I heard my assistant, Monique, trying without success to calm him down and to keep him out of my office.

“Ray, I’m going to have to call you back,” I said quickly and didn’t wait for him to respond before I ended the call.

I walked quickly to my door and opened it to see my assistant standing in front of my father, trying to prevent him from getting into my office. “Thank you, Monique. I can take it from here.”

“Father, what a pleasant surprise. Will you come in?” I said.

“I wouldn’t call this pleasant when I was manhandled by your assistant. She can’t treat me like that,” My father said and straightened out his suit.
