“That’s true for me too.”

The same serene feeling came over me as soon as we walked through the door. While my fear for Luisa lingered, it wasn’t predominant. Rather than sitting in a pew, I approached the altar, knelt, raised my face, and prayed. Noah was beside me, close enough for our arms to touch.

I’d silently said amen and opened my eyes when Noah pulled his phone out.

“She’s on it.”

I didn’t need him to say who or on what. My sister was on her way to England, and when the ship transporting her there arrived, I would be there.

“When can we leave?” I asked.

“Arrangements are being made now. My guess is, within a few hours.”

“I need to tell my mom.”

I rushed out of the temple and ran toward the casita.

“Mom!”I called out, racing from room to room once I arrived. “Mom? Where are you?”

“She must’ve gone for a walk,” said Noah, who had been looking into rooms like I had. “I’ll ask Tryst where she is.”

I walked outside while Noah talked to him.

“Please let Luisa be okay,” I said, looking up at the sky. I hated that it was the best I could hope for, but after what she’d been through, how could it be more?

“She’s at the meditation building,” said Noah, joining me on the porch.

Her being there seemed odd, but maybe she was looking for me.

It was a short walk, and when Noah opened the door, I saw her inside, talking to his brother. Tryst arrived at the same time we did.

“Mom, we have news. We know where Luisa is.” I realized my blunder as soon as I finished my sentence. I should’ve said we believed we knew.

“Why are you here? Why aren’t you—”

I interrupted my mother. “Jorge confirmed she is on a container ship bound for England.”

She studied me.

“We’re assembling a team to meet the ship when it arrives at the port,” Noah explained.

My mom looked from him to me.

“I’ll be going with them,” I told her.

“What should I do?” she asked.

“It would be best if you stayed here at the ranch,” said Tryst before I had the chance to respond.

I looked at Noah, and he nodded.

I reached over and squeezed her hand. “I’ll be in contact and keep you informed every step of the way.”
