She smiled grimly as she deciphered his words. “That’s because nothing good will come out of this.”

His head swiveled quickly, his eyes bugging out as though on strings. “You speak Spanish.”

She nodded. Thanks to having a number of foreign nannies and maids, even before her studies she’d had a knack for other languages. “I do.”

Yusef glowered at Yasmine, then pointed to the bloodied strip of material he’d wrapped around his hand, the same one she’d bitten. “Open your mouth again and I will shove this filthy rag inside it.”

She resisted glowering right back at him and instead dropped her eyes. The idea of the bloody gag in her mouth made her stomach churn in queasy protest. With any luck she’d said enough to nurture the seed of doubt already sprouting in the tall man’s mind.

Blood began to drip through the cloth on Yusef’s hand, splattering the gray, marine-grade carpet beneath. He didn’t look concerned. He was beginning to look excited, anticipating whatever was ahead.

Her stomach knotted. It couldn’t be a good thing, not for her.

Whatever was in store for her wouldn’t be pleasant. She was either their ticket to a better life, or a way to derail Jamal and make him suffer for whatever sins he might have committed against someone.

She swallowed hard, and forced herself to at least try and get some answers. Looking up at Yusef, she asked, “Can I at least ask where you are taking me?”

He shrugged. “What does it matter? You’ll get what you deserve now.”

She held back tears. No doubt Yusef and the other men would enjoy seeing her scared. “And whatdoI deserve?”

He snorted. “You humiliated and betrayed Sheikh Arif. You deserve whatever punishment he devises.”

Horror for a moment stole away her breath. Out of all the reasons for getting kidnapped that one hadn’t even crossed her mind. Better to get shot in the head than endure whatever Arif had planned. “Do you have any idea what he does to women, and most especially to his enemies? He will tear me apart piece-by-piece.”

Though Yusef for a moment looked uncomfortable, he lifted his bloodied hand with a scowl and shook his head. “You’re lucky I didn’t hurt you after what you did to me.”

“Why didn’t you?” she asked bitterly.

“Why?” Yusef chuckled. “Because Sheikh Arif wants you unscathed and unharmed. He wants to have all the pleasure in hurting you. And hurt you he will.”

Calmness was about as far out of reach as her husband was from her now. “You won’t get away with this! Jamal will kill every one of you to get to me.”

Yusef threw his head back and laughed. “Do you really think he’ll care what happens to you after what you did?”

She blinked. “How do you know—“

He snorted and she froze, her stomach hardening. “You had the room wired, didn’t you?”

Of course he did. He’d been the first one to go inside the honeymoon hut and ensure it was safe. It had been the perfect opportunity for him to plant the necessary devices that enabled him to hear their every conversation…and more.

He nodded and smirked. “I did. It was rather interesting hearing your conversations. It was even more interesting hearing the both of you in bed. I should probably thank you. Your sexual performances had me jacking off more times than I can count.”

The short man snorted, and she glanced back to find him staring at her with a glint in his eyes and a leer on his face. But clearly he took the “no touch” rule seriously and stayed in his seat.

Yet despite the men’s distance and the relentless heat, she shivered. If she’d been scared to marry Sheikh Arif, she was terrified of what he’d do to her now thanks to her rejection. Compared to Arif, these men were nothing more than trained dogs.

She glanced wildly between them. “Whatever Arif has offered, Jamal will double it!”

Yusef laughed. “Nice try. But you know as well as us that he will kill us all if we’re stupid enough to get caught. And we are most definitely not stupid.”

The short man leaned forward in his seat. “What weareis desperate for payment. Which means we’ll take your wedding and engagement rings.”

Yasmine glanced down at her rings. They were a part of her now. Perhaps the only comfort she’d have in the coming days. “They’re mine,” she gritted out.

Yusef frowned at the shorter man. “Not a good idea, Odai.”

Odai’s eyes gleamed. “They will be worth a small fortune. Why not take what we can from this deal? No one would begrudge us a bonus. We’ll split the profits three ways once we sell them.”
