Smitten. To be honest, I never understood the reference until now. That, and the word swoon.

Sure, the reference was self-explanatory—easy to picture inside my head while reading a juicy romance novel. However, these moments that women live for have evaded me until now.

Until Nicholas.

He’s the reason why I’m smiling from ear to ear at the crack of dawn while we sit on this stretch of solitary beach. Why I’m counting each of his heartbeats against my back as I perch myself on the sand between his muscled thighs.

How have I only known him for four days? The way we connect, how he gets me, has the feel of a decade-long relationship. One where we’ve been through it all and still smile each day because love will always be worth it in the end.

For the last few days, we’ve been inseparable—always together—while Crystal and Evan have done the same. It feels as if we’re squeezing months’ worth of dates into hours, but I’ve never been happier. Felt more taken care of.

No matter what we are doing, I’m his focus and he is mine.

It’s love. We haven’t said the words, but I feel them. His warmth surrounds me.

This powerful connection we share is humbling in a sense. Not common. Which further proves what I always knew to be true; my soul would recognize my other half.

“You’re quiet,” he murmurs, nuzzling the area just below my ear. “Did you fall asleep on me?”

“Nope.” Grabbing his hand around my waist, I begin tracing the colorful designs on his forearm. “Just contemplating one of life’s greatest mysteries.”

“How handsome I am?” A nip, and then lick to my sensitive skin. “How irresistible?”

I chuckle, resting my head back. “How fast someone’s life can change.”

“In the blink of an eye.” His words are low, but I hear them. Nick is quiet after that. For a few minutes we just enjoy the view. Listen to the waves crash on the shore while the sun slowly rises, casting a warm glow across the sand. “Mila.”

“Yeah.” I answer, eyes on the sand a few feet away where a few birds linger. They’ve been poking at something with no success.

“Is that a good thing?” Silly man.

“In my case…” I tilt my head back to look him in the eye “…it’s spectacular.”

“Good to know.” Nick licks his lips, then gives me a cute little pucker that tells me he wants some sugar.

“You’re adorable, Champ.” At my words, he rolls his eyes and pushes those soft lips out a little more. “You want something?”

“Woman, get a move on. It’s been fifteen minutes since you last kissed me.” Looking at him, taking in his over six-foot glory, you’d never think that he’s such a teddy bear. With me, he’s kind and generous. Courteous and unapologetic over his need to be close.

Kissing. Holding hands. A quick flick of the eyes as we talk with our friends that makes my skin warm.

Everything he does feels like I am constantly being wrapped in his love.

“I apologize, kind sir. Please forgive my indiscretion.”

“Shut up and pucker, Mimi.” He laughs and then, because he has no patience, Nick takes the kiss before I can respond. It’s slow and sweet; his tongue massages mine in a sinful dance that causes my core to clench. His taste, the feel of him beneath me as I turn in his arms and straddle his thighs, is maddening.

At once, his hand goes to my hair and he maneuvers me to his liking. He deepens the kiss, slanting his mouth over mine while taking control and pulling me closer, chest to chest.

I savor his possessive need, ingrain it to memory as his taste becomes a part of my DNA.

For a moment, I forget where we are, and my focus lies solely on him.

How he nibbles my bottom lip, nips the sensitive skin and then licks it better. How he groans each time I massage my tongue against his. How his desperation mirrors my own.

“We should take this back to your house,” I moan against his lips, hip gyrating over his hardness. “Let’s cancel our plans and stay in bed. Explore a little more?”
