“That’s a lofty goal, Yarvok.”
“I know, lofty goals are the only ones worth having.”
My eyes burn into her, and she blushes a little. It’s obvious that I consider her one of my lofty goals even if I haven’t come out and said it.
I take the hovercraft back into the air. We rise up above the level of a flock of purple plumed native avian creatures. They undulate in an elaborate, ever changing formation, their iridescent wings shining in the sun.
“They’re amazing,” she says with a sigh.
I smile, and follow the bird flock for a while so she can continue to watch it. Her smile is infectious. It turned out to be true. When I see familiar sights through her eyes a new level of beauty is unlocked for me.
The next sight I show her is nearer to Touchdown. It’s not as pretty as the other, but has the advantage of location.
“I thought if I put up this close to town, I could also do tours as a way to generate income.”
“Are there that many tourists coming to New Verdan?”
I chuckle and shake my head.
“Not really. You are a rare breed, my dear…and I’m not just talking about your vacationing here.”
“I get that,” she says. “You know, you can be really sweet sometimes Yarvok.”
My heart beats faster, and all I can do is smile at her. I can’t think of anything to say to capitalize on this moment. Then again, maybe I don’t have to.
Maybe I don’t have to be the king of the world as long as I’m with her. It feels like paradise isn’t too far away when she is near.
I’m becoming addicted to the sparkle in her eyes, to her musical laugh, to the way she gently teases me from time to time.
And yes, she’s undeniably one of the most sexually attractive sapient beings in the galaxy. It’s hard to believe an intelligent and sophisticated woman like this is on a date with a bum like me. I feel like I’m a hundred feet tall and breathing fire.
The third sight I show her is located next to a lake bordered on three sides by a high cliff. A picturesque waterfall feeds the dazzling blue lake, and it is by far the most beautiful spot of the three.
“Wow,” she says breathlessly. “This is wonderful.”
“Yes, it’s the most expensive lot of the three but I think it might be worth it.”
I fly her back to the ranch, and then walk her to the door. We linger on the porch for some time, talking about everything and nothing all at once.
Eventually she rises from the porch swing where we’ve been sitting and moves to the front door.
“I guess I have to go inside. I told Elena I would make dinner tonight.”
“Dinner?”
I look at the time and am shocked that I’ve spent the entire day with her already. Time seemed to just fly by.
“Thank you for coming with me,” I say, standing up and taking her hand in my own. “I enjoy your company.’”
“I enjoy our company too, Yarvok.”
I stare at her for a long time. She gives a soft laugh and her eyes grow larger.
“Yarvok…what are you going to do—”
I kiss her then, before I lose my nerve.
