“You took her back to your room?” Victoria scolds. “Saxon!”
“What? We were both single, consenting adults.”
“Even so,” Victoria continues. “A one-night stand? I’m shocked.”
“Did you use protection?” Evie wants to know, eyes twinkling.
“Jesus Christ,” he says as Sidnie and I giggle. “Yes, Evie, I packed my own parachute.”
She giggles too, and he grins.
“What was her name?” I ask.
“Catie. With a C.” His expression softens.
“That’s unusual.”
“It might not have been her real name,” he admits. “I told her mine was Norman.”
That makes us all chuckle. “Was she older than you?” I ask.
He obviously guesses I’m referring to his admission that he likes older women. “No… She was twenty-three. Tall, like Sidnie. Legs all the way down to the ground. And she had this red hair that was up in a bun, but when she took it down…” He gestures as if to indicate it tumbling over her shoulders, and sighs. “It was like fire.”
“Was it natural?” Chrissie asks.
“Yeah,” Mack says, “did the carpet match the drapes?”
Saxon bears the teasing and laughter with a wry smile. “I don’t kiss and tell.”
“She’s hardly going to find out,” Evie scoffs.
“That’s not the point.”
She raises her eyebrows. He flicks water at her.
“What did you like most about her?” I ask softly, because it’s clear that he did.
He hesitates then. “I don’t want to say.”
“Why?” Evie asks. “Is it rude?”
“Jesus, Evie, no. Because you’ll all mock me.”
“Now you’ve got to tell us,” she demands.
He blows out a breath. “She could name all the Doctor Whos in order.”
We burst out laughing and his lips curve up. “She sounds nice,” I say. “I wish I could have met her.”
He sighs. “Yeah. She was…” He drifts off. I wait for him to answer, starting to smile as he continues to gaze off into space. Then he looks back at me and his lips curve up. “I was trying to think of the right word.”
“And?”
“Sublime pretty much covers it.”
“Aw. And you can’t find her?”
He sighs. “Nah. Anyway, enough about me. Time someone else was the topic of conversation.”
