He began pulling me toward the service exit. I would have screamed and fought more, but my mind drifted to the baby I was carrying. Hunter could kill me in an instant, I could only hope that maybe someone had heard my cries, maybe…

Before I could finish my thought, the service exit doors opened and Sean and Christian were standing there. My heart was racing but seeing them relaxed me a bit. I knew I was going to be okay. My boys were there to save me.

Hunter pressed the letter opener into my neck as if to make a point.

“Let us pass and she won’t die,” he demanded.

“We’re not going to do that,” Christian said, his voice calm but firm. “You’re going to let her go, and no one will have to get hurt.”

Hunter scoffed, but his hands were shaking. The blade of the letter opener was pressing into my neck.

The next few seconds were a blur of movement as someone rushed us from behind. Hunter’s hand moved away from my neck and he released me. I fell into the arms of Sean who was nearest to me, and he held me against his chest.

I heard grunts and groans and turned to see what was happening. Gage was on top of Hunter, he had disarmed him and he was now beating Hunter to a pulp.

“Feel this?” Gage growled. “This is what it feels like if I actually had punched you before.”

Reed rushed forward and grabbed Gage by the shoulders, “Enough,” he said.

Gage slowly stood up and glared down at Hunter. “By the way, that just now? That was me being gentle.” Hunter’s face was a bloody mess.

My head was spinning from everything that had just happened. I heard footsteps coming down the hall and people shouting. Armed police officers rounded the corner and demanded, “Put your hands up, now!”

“I guess Hilda received notification that we’d entered the building, like Rosie had said she would,” Sean muttered next to me. He let go of me only to put his hands up.

Everyone else obeyed as well. Except for Hunter.

“Thank God you’re here, officers,” he started to say. And considering the blood flowing from his nose, he did look like a victim of assault, but I wasn’t about to let him get away with it this time. “I was working late and these guys—”

“NO,” I said, speaking firmly and loudly. “He was holding me hostage, these men saved my life.”

Gage, wiping the sweat from his brow said, “You can see it all on the security footage if you even bother to look.”

Jason muttered, “Maybe they’ll take things seriously now.”

The police took each of us into a separate room and interviewed us all. It was hours before we got out of there, and the police did indeed look at the security footage which showed everything. I had never felt such relief as the moment that they led Hunter away in handcuffs and released me to go home with my seven saviors.

“Mornin, sunshine,” Snow peered down from the bed. Her bed was only a queen, not nearly large enough for all of us, so most of us slept on the floor of her room.

“I’m sorry, did I wake you with my sneezing?” I asked. “I picked up some more allergy medication and a different nasal spray.”

“No, no, not at all,” she said with a laugh. “I didn’t even notice. Please tell me you got some rest at least?”

Petey was used to sleeping in the room with Snow, and he had scratched at the door for most of the night. It had made me feel so guilty that I finally let him in, figuring I’d deal with the consequences, and he was now fast asleep on my chest. He didn’t even seem to mind my sneezing too much. He’d wake up, give me an annoyed look then turn around and fall back to sleep again.

“I did, but I’m more worried about you. How do you feel?”

She shrugged. “I feel okay. A little sick to my stomach but that’s normal these days.”

“Yeah, morning sickness and all that.

Her face suddenly turned serious. “Wait, how did you—”

“Sorry,” Jason spoke up from his spot next to me on the floor. “I let it slip yesterday.”
