“Oh, Jase.” I fingered the delicate gold chain lightly. “Will you put it on for me?”

He came over and plucked the necklace out of the box. In the middle of it sat a meteor. The main body of the star contained a sparkly diamond, and the trails behind it were solid gold. It was beautiful and clearly hadn’t been cheap.

I lifted up my hair and he secured the chain around my neck. When I turned back around, I touched the meteor lightly. “How does it look?”

“Perfect, just like you.”

My face fell. “I’m not perfect. Nobody is.”

“Close enough.”

“Thank you so much. It’s beautiful.” I wrapped my arms around him and held him tightly.

“Why don’t we have some fun tonight?”

I pulled back, the corners of my mouth turning up. “What did you have in mind?”

He placed his hands on my hips. “Why don’t we head to the club? We can drink and dance the night away.”

“Sounds like a plan. We can have the kitchen prepare some dinner for us.”

The strip club had a full-service kitchen for our members, who could order meals cooked to their liking or take advantage of the appetizers on constant rotation around the club. Providing food ensured they drank more and stayed longer, spending more money on private lap dances.

“Great. It’s a date. I’ll call Duncan and let him know we’ll be there tonight.”

Meteor’s general manager would take care of everything for us, from making sure our private booth was spotless to checking there was enough of our preferred wines and spirits on hand for us to imbibe.

He made the necessary call, putting in a special order, and my spirits brightened for the rest of the afternoon.

Around six, I shut down my laptop and stood, stretching. “I want to go home and get changed. Pick me up in half an hour?”

“Will do.”

Stuart drove me back to the penthouse and then returned to the office to collect Jase. I was waiting for them in the lobby when the car pulled up outside the building. I thanked the doorman on duty as I breezed past him, and when I got closer to the car, Jase opened the door for me.

I saw the way he looked at me as I climbed in. I’d decided to wear a dress that made me feel sexy and had known exactly which one to go for. It was a short, sequined hot pink number that would glitter under the lights of the nightclub.

The rounded neckline wasn’t anything that would draw the eye, but it was backless, the material dipping just below the small of my back.

He let out a low whistle as I settled onto the seat next to him. “You look gorgeous. Want a drink?”

I shook my head and gave him a warm smile. “We’ll be at the club soon. I want to eat something before the raucous drinking commences.”

He huffed out a breath. “Speak for yourself. There’ll be no raucous drinking on my part.”

I raised an eyebrow, the corners of my mouth turning up. “Uh huh. We’ll see.”

When we arrived at Meteor, we bid Stuart goodnight and studied the throngs of people awaiting entry. The line had already wound its way around the block. Unsurprising, since it was Friday night and the nightclub allowed entry to the general public.

Jase placed his hand on my bare back and guided me past the mostly younger people awaiting entry into Meteor. One of our bouncers unclipped the rope barring entry and we’d just stepped through when a voice stopped us in our tracks.

“Hey, how come these assholes get to skip the line?”

I stiffened, and we both turned to look at the man who’d shouted angrily at us. He was in his early twenties and had already clearly thrown back a few drinks. His friends were trying to shush him, as a few of them had apparently worked out who we were, but he seemed determined to be heard.

We walked toward him, and the people in front of him moved to the side. A hush went over the crowd as they waited to see what would happen. The young man straightened up as we got near, and his eyes widened in recognition.

I gave him a cold smile. “These assholes get to skip the line because they own the club. Which you will not be entering, now or ever again. Have a good night.”
