Marian flew back to New York with Victoria and Julian on the Nolan family’s private jet a couple of days after our wedding, and we resisted the urge to check our work emails daily when Marian agreed to call us in the event of an emergency.

I think we were both a little sad to leave the gorgeous island we’d been staying on for the last couple of weeks, but Victoria had told us we were welcome to return at any time and we agreed we wanted to go there again.

We were relaxed, happy, and so in love when we returned to work following our honeymoon that part of me wanted to whisk her away again. I ended up doing just that when we’d been married for three months, although our getaway was to the Caribbean for four days.

But little trips like that one were necessary for us, so we could focus more on being spouses and less on being business partners, and we made them a regular thing.

Our formal wedding two months after the first one was a lavish affair, with invitations highly coveted. We did end up inviting over a thousand guests, including every single person who was on our payroll. We wouldn’t have had the success we did if it wasn’t for our hardworking employees, and Emilia and I agreed we wanted them there.

We also extended an invitation to Tyrone and his family, and had been thrilled when he’d accepted. We’d flown them to New York and had spent a few days after the wedding showing them around the city.

It was just as magical a day as our first wedding had been. Emilia was wearing an expensive designer gown that had been made especially for her, and she looked exquisite in it. I’d donned a Tom Ford tuxedo and Marian stood at the altar with me, wearing an identical dress to Victoria, who walked down the aisle in front of Emilia and Julian, who’d agreed to give her away.

Since we’d already had a honeymoon, we simply went back to our penthouse once the reception ended in the early hours of the morning. A good time was had by all, and we had printed thank-you cards sent out to everyone who came with a photo of the two of us from our big day on it.

Not a day went by when it didn’t hit me how fucking lucky I was. To be living the life I did. To have enough money I never had to worry about how to pay for anything I needed or wanted. To be able to support so many children in the foster system, give them what we’d never had—a safe place to live with people who genuinely cared about them.

Most of all, I knew how lucky I was to have found my soulmate all those years ago, when I was just an orphan in a small town in Kansas, angry with the world and convinced I was unlovable. Emilia had shown me that wasn’t true and having her by my side made me strong enough to face whatever life threw at us.

Because we did it together.
