“I’d like to do something if you’re game. Not sure what yet. We can figure it out though.”

They finished with their breakfast and he brought her home. While she was in her shower, he sat on the couch looking at his phone. Daisy wasn’t there and he wasn’t sure if she was working or not.

But when the front door opened, she came in with a bunch of bags in her hand.

He jumped up. “Let me help you.”

“I didn’t know you were here. You can gladly help me as the rest are in the hall.”

He took those bags she set down and then saw her go into the hall for more, but he caught up to her to get them too. “This is a lot.”

“Normally Heather and I take turns buying things throughout the week. Or we go together so that there aren’t so many bags to do at once for one person. I’ve got a routine now to just load it all by the elevator, leaving my car out front. Then bringing it up here and unloading it into the hall, then moving it to the door.”

“I get the picture,” he said.

“I need to go move my car,” Daisy said. “I’ll be right back.”

He started to unload their groceries for them and just set them on the counter. It’s not like he knew where to put anything but didn’t feel right leaving them for Heather’s roommate to do.

“Look at you being so helpful,” Heather said, coming into the kitchen.

“Daisy went to move her car. Tell me where this stuff goes.”

She put one crutch against the wall and stood in front of their pantry. “Start to hand me all the boxed stuff and I’ll put it in here.”

“What are you doing, Heather?” Daisy said firmly when she came in. “I thought you were making sure she didn’t overdo things, Luke.”

Damn. Talk about feeling like a child caught with their hand in the cookie jar right after they’d gotten slapped for doing it once. He looked down and saw the cookies in his hand and held back the laugh.

“Does she listen to you?” he asked.

“Not always,” Daisy said. “But out. Thank you, but out. Both of you. I know where everything goes and I don’t need a man I’m not with seeing our monthly lady products.”

Yeah, there was the heat filling his face again. He gladly got the hell out of the kitchen with Heather laughing at him.

“Did you decide what you want to do today?” he asked. She hadn’t given him any ideas and if she just wanted to sit and relax, he’d be fine with that too.

“Do you mind going to the movies? There is a new action flick playing. It’s hot outside and will be cool in there. Then we can stop and get my roommate some of her favorite fudge for all she’s been doing.”

“That sounds like a plan,” Daisy said from the kitchen.

“Guess the movies it is,” he said. “We can get some lunch before it. Daisy, can we take you to lunch with us?”

Daisy ran out of the kitchen and looked at the two of them. “You want me on your date?”

“I’m not sure I’m counting this as a date anymore since we go out enough.”

“So you’re in a relationship now?” Daisy asked him.

He looked at Heather. She was smirking at him. He wasn’t sure he’d ever been put on the spot like this before. Nor was he one for putting labels on things he might have with a woman.

“I guess you could call it that. Men don’t think that way. I just know I’m not seeing anyone else.”

Heather lifted her elbow against his arm. “You better not be. But yes, Daisy. Come to lunch with us. And the movies if you want. My treat for being such a great friend.”

“Mytreat for taking care of my girlfriend.”

“Awwww,” Daisy said. “He called you his girlfriend.”
