He had to adjust his hips to try and hide his erection from her. She was still biting down on her lip looking out of the window and all he wanted to do was to push his thumb between those lips, to feel her teeth grind on him. He stiffened to suppress a groan, his dick slightly twitching and growing harder.

He got up, unable to sit still anymore. It was a mistake. His arousal was clearly showing, and he was glad that she was still looking out of the window. He quickly walked over to the bar behind her and out of her view. Rayen was grinning at him, and Amon watched him closely.

He gave them both a look that said far more than just, Fuck you.

“Silas,” Amon warned, his eyes fixed on him. “You need to drive later.”

At first, he was confused, then his eyes fell on the bar. Amon was keeping up the façade for Gwen. He let out a frustrated sound and leaned against the chair next to Gwen.

“Fine.”

Gwen was barely drinking her wine, only resting it on her knee.

“We have other wine if you prefer.”

She tilted her head slightly to look at him. “No, I just don’t wanna drink it too fast,” she said, gazing back to Amon.

It wasn’t that she was scared of Amon as a person, rather scared of not pleasing him and losing her job. At least, that’s what Silas could tell from her behavior. It bothered him to the core. He didn’t want her to worry about such things. When Amon got mad at her the first weekend they’d arrived at the Houston manor, she’d stood up to him and his accusations. She knew how to defend herself, yet she also seemed very scared of losing her job–almost as if her life depended on it.

He studied her closer and had to remind himself that she was human in all ways. He knew far too well how much he’d struggled to stay alive as a human and how all he’d done was work for his next meal. Until Katoren had killed and turned him into a vampire, Silas had barely been surviving. He’d lived day in and day out not knowing if he would wake up the next morning.

Gwen was struggling with the same fate all humans were more or less struggling with. Of course, with her current income she surely wasn’t struggling but that would change as soon as they let her go. She seemed terrified of that thought, even though Silas wasn’t quite sure why. Someone like her should be able to find a job anywhere she wanted to, but he could also be biased.

His dick had softened, so he went back and sat down watching her as she very slowly finished her wine and glanced out of the window. The rest of the flight was silent and so was the deboarding.

Two cars were already parked on the tarmac waiting for them. Gwen followed Rayen and Silas out of the plane and hesitated as she looked at the two cars.

He walked up behind her and slightly bent over her shoulder. “You’re driving with Rayen and Amon.”

She startled, a tiny gasp escaping her lips. She’d known he was behind her but probably not this close. His fangs started aching as her sweet scent intensified from being so close to her.

Rayen opened the back passenger door of the car, motioning for her to sit. She quickly walked to him, but not without turning her head back to Silas, her eyes slightly accusing. He chuckled and grinned, giving her a slight wink. Her cheeks immediately blushed. Quickly turning her attention to Rayen, she hopped into the car.

He watched them leave before driving off himself. He’d wanted to stay by Gwen’s side, but hated the office and all that came with it even more. Unlike Amon, he hated forcing himself into human society. He didn’t mind the amenities that came with obeying the rules, yet he didn’t have to play nice and hide who he was on purpose. Even Rayen used to stay home while Amon took care of business but since Gwen, he’d been out with her every day.

Rayen had chosen the house in Bel Air out of all the ones they owned. He’d done so on purpose. It was the smallest of them all and without a separate guest house. Gwen would be so close yet so far out of reach. Her scent would spread through the whole house just like it did when she came to the office every morning. He would hear her faint heartbeat and the blood flow through her veins even clearer now than when she hid away in her little guesthouse. His fangs descended and his dick turned hard again.

“Fuck,” he growled and parked the car in the driveway.

The house was neatly hidden away and gave him enough privacy to let his speed out. He hated walking as slow as humans and here he didn’t have to do so. At least, not until Gwen arrived. He carried the luggage inside and took hers into the master bedroom on the first floor. He laid her tiny suitcase on her bed and stood frozen for just a moment.

He wanted to open it, to take some of her clothes and hold them, soaking in her scent. His hand hovered over the zipper. He growled again and turned away. This was her private space and Amon would behead him if he stepped over that thin line. He’d been clear that Gwen’s privacy was to be maintained at all costs.

He filled himself a glass with blood, sat in the living space and spent the afternoon reading. Amon, Rayen, and Gwen returned closer to six. As soon as she walked in, his whole body started aching, wanting to get close to her. He stayed in his seat and listened to Rayen explaining everything to her.

“Your room is right over there, and we will be sharing a kitchen.”

“Okay,” she paused, and he heard them moving around. “Can I have the Wi-Fi password?”

“Of course.”

Amon walked into the office across from the living space and returned with a paper a moment later.

“Thank you,” Gwen’s sweet respectful voice said. “So, I can cook dinner in the kitchen or are you going to use it?”

Rayen’s voice dripped with amusement. “You can use it whenever you like, the fridge is stocked and the pantry is overflowing.”

She must have nodded and was now walking towards her room.
