“You will both fucking regret this,” Silas growled before he disappeared.

Amon sighed, his heart bleeding. “I should’ve never let her come into our lives.”

Rayen went behind the bar and filled two glasses with blood, before sitting down next to him. “I know, but we all get weak from time to time.” He handed him the glass, but Amon refused. “You can’t starve yourself as punishment.”

Reluctantly Amon took the glass and emptied it in one gulp. He hadn’t fed since they’d returned from Los Angeles.

“Knowing you, you already have everything planned out, don’t you?”

“I’ve arranged job offerings for her. They’ll pay her what we paid her and are close to the city. We’ll also pay her a good amount for the inconvenience of having to relocate.”

“Tell me we are doing the right thing, because this feels far too wrong to be the right way to go.”

“Rayen, she has no future with us.”

“Fuck, I hate this.”

“We all do.”

Letting Gwendoline go painfully reminded him of losing Marianna. His heart had taken over four hundred years to heal and now it was about to be shattered again. Gwendoline had been the first woman able to make him want her. Not that she’d tried, but her whole personality had drawn him in from the first time he’d laid eyes on her. She was the total opposite of Marianna; fiery, strong willed, yet sweet and loving.

Marianna was a quiet woman, which was expected of her in her day and age. He’d loved her with all his heart and when she’d died in his arms with his child still growing in her womb, his whole world had shattered.

Gwendoline had been the first woman to show promise to fill his heart again, the first woman he’d seen as worthy to show his attention to. She was nothing like his Marianna, but everything he never knew he wanted. Though she never was very open towards him, not even before he’d turned his cold shoulder on her.

Rayen had been the one to break the ice and unfold her little wings. He’d made her blush, smile, and laugh. At first, Amon had been jealous of it, wanting her for himself. Then he’d enjoyed watching them both, even though he didn’t let her see it. Silas had quickly warmed up to her too, though he’d had a different approach than Rayen. He was very possessive and had had trouble letting Rayen have all her attention yet was unsure how to approach her himself.

Even though Amon appreciated Gwendoline’s company, he’d held back, feeling guilty and taken aback by the fact that he was betraying Marianna. It was one of the reasons he never wanted to be too close or personal with Gwendoline.

It felt like playing with fire or balancing on a sharp blade edge. He’d vowed himself to Marianna and had stayed faithful to her since. Now with Gwendoline, part of him wanted to be with her, yet the other didn’t want to hurt and betray his wife.

“What will we tell her?”

Amon turned his attention back to Rayen. “That we’ll be relocating. The transition to the new office has been far better than expected and we’ll be moving to L.A. again.”

Rayen’s face turned to agony. “Will we move though?”

“Yes, she is too tempting. We wouldn’t be able to stay away from her.”

“She won’t like it.”

“Only because she is afraid to lose her job.”

“I don’t believe that is all there is to it. She likes us. I don’t think she just sees us as her job. I can’t be the only one who sees how she looks at us. Not just me and Silas, but you too.” He sighed frustrated. “At least until you treated her like a criminal.”

Of course, he’d seen it, the way she gleamed at them, more Silas and Rayen but sometimes even him.

“When will we tell her?”

“Tonight.”

“Fuck, Amon. You will shatter her.”

“She is strong, and we’ll make sure she’s well taken care of.”

“I’d prefer to take care of her myself, spoil her, never let her work a minute in her life again.”

Rayen amused him, letting his chest vibrate as he tried not to laugh. “I’m not sure if she would appreciate that much.”
