“That sounds just so beautiful. I wish I really could sit with her and get to know her. I would listen to her for hours telling me all the sweet, and the embarrassing stories she had of you.”

He cupped her face in his hands and wiped away her tears with his thumbs. “You two are so different, yet you would’ve gotten along very well.”

“Different in a bad way?”

“Not at all. You both grew up in different times, with different fates and families.”

Leaning into his touch, she closed her eyes. “I want to know all about her. I want to know her as if I knew her personally.”

“One day you will, but not tonight. Tonight, you have to sleep and rest so you can go back to work tomorrow.”

She sighed and nodded. Laying back down she rested her head on his chest and wrapped her arms and legs around his body. He soothed her to sleep, with his hands running up and down her back, just like he’d seen Rayen and Silas do.

After a while Rayen opened the door and came in with a glass in his hand. “You should paint that scene, you know?”

He had thought about it too. “I will, but don’t tell her.”

“She’ll start crying again when she sees it.”

Amon looked down on her peaceful, sleeping face. “I’ll never be able to live without her.”

Silas entered the room and sat dawn on the chair by the window. “Let’s turn her then.”

“No, not unless it comes from her. We’ll not offer, not unless she initiates it first.”

“Why, Amon?” Rayen asked curiously.

“Because she has to make that decision. I don’t want her to think that’s our goal, because it’s not. Her happiness is our priority and if one day she walks out of here wanting a normal life with a family, she can have that. But if she chooses us for eternity, we’ll give her that too.”

Silas drew out a long breath. “I don’t like her leaving us, but I think you are right.”

“Wait! What?” Rayen laughed quietly. “We need to write this day down in the history books. You’re agreeing with Amon without a fight?”

“You don’t agree with Amon?”

“I do, but I thought we’d have to fight you on this.”

Silas’s jawline tightened. “You’ll have to fight me on the day she leaves us because I won’t be able to let her go.”

“But you will?” Amon needed clarification.

“Not willingly.”

“I think we’ll all struggle on that day,” Rayen admitted leaning against the door frame, his eyes lovingly on Gwendoline.

Just as they had before, they all stayed close to her until the morning. Although, neither Rayen nor Silas joined Amon and Gwendoline in bed. He knew they wanted to touch her, but they gave the two of them time for themselves. Amon greatly appreciated it and didn’t mind them being in the same room as long as he was able to hold her for the first time all to himself.

The next morning was just like the one before. She woke up to her alarm clock buzzing and got dressed for the day while Rayen made her breakfast. Kissing both Rayen and Silas, she said goodbye to them and followed Amon to the car.

“I might be able to get off early today,” she chirped, seemingly in a good mood.

“I’ll pick you up whenever you finish.” He helped her into the car and with lightning speed sat next to her, starting the engine.

“You don’t have meetings?”

“Nothing is more important than you.”

His words made her blush. “Can we draw today again?”
