“I don’t want you to. I want you here with us. I want to know that we’re together in everything every day.”

“So I’m moving in, then?”

She smiles. “I thought that would be a given.”

Squeezing her hand in mine, I say, “Are you gonna marry me too?”

“Is this you proposing?”

Never in my life did I think I’d ever tie myself to a woman in marriage, but here I am, needing her to say yes.

“I mean, I haven’t got you a ring or anything yet. I woke up this morning, still believing I’d lost the best thing to ever happen to me. But if you say yes, you’ll have one by this time tomorrow.”

“I’d love to be your wife.”

Love is something I never thought I’d experience. It wasn’t something I missed or craved. I knew from the second I laid eyes on Evie that she was special, and would change my life.

I now know what love—real love—is, and I have no qualms about killing to keep it.

Cupping the side of her face, I smile.

“I’m never letting you go.”

“I don’t ever want you to.”

Kissing her, we lay back, and without breaking apart, I move on top of her.

“I love you so much,” I say, using one hand to undo my jeans.

Shimmying out of her leggings, while still trapped beneath me, I line myself at her entrance. She’s already wet for me.

Claiming her mouth, I kiss her with everything I have and thrust into her. She wraps her legs around me, urging me deeper, harder. I get to fuck this woman for the rest of my life, and that thought alone has me busting my load after thirty embarrassing seconds.

I growl, “Fuck,” as she giggles.

Pulling out, I roll over next to her and throw my arm over my eyes, as if to hide from the humiliation.

She giggles even harder. “I think someone was too quick to celebrate.”

“I’ll make it up to you, just give me a minute.”

My phone rings on the nightstand. Seeing Chaos’s name flash across the screen, I sit up and answer it.

“Prez?”

“I just got word your old man died today.”

“Thanks for the call.”

He hangs up, and it takes me a minute to move.

“Is everything okay?” Evie asks.

Her voice breaks through, and I jump up from the bed, fastening my jeans as I go.

“I need to call Lexi. I’ll be back in a minute.”

I jog down the stairs, snatch up my pack of cigarettes from the dresser in the hallway, and head out back.
