“You know you’re my only girl. Come here.”
She squeals, then laughs, so I know he’s managed to sneak a kiss from her.
“I’m glad she knows him,” Saxon says. “He’s a walking lawsuit.” We both grin. “Feel better?” he asks.
“Yeah.”
“All right. Message your girl. Tell her you miss her.” He gets to his feet. “And let me know what happens with Craig.”
“Will do. Hey, hold on a sec. Put your nose on.”
He reapplies the flashing nose. “Is this for Alice?”
“Yeah.” He poses, and I take the shot. “Thanks.”
“Anytime.” He heads out, and I hear Marion exclaim, “Oh goodness! You’re as bad as your brother,” so I know he’s snuck a kiss beneath the mistletoe with her as well.
Smiling, I pull up Snapchat—we friended each other on the app last night—and send the photo to Alice with the message,Just an ordinary day at the office.
She comes back:That’s Saxon, right?
Me:Yeah, how did you know?
Alice:You’re better looking.
I laugh.
Me:We’re identical.
Alice:Nah. You have naughtier eyebrows.
I smile. She never fails to warm me all the way through.
A photo of her appears, and my heart gives a noticeable bump. She’s taken a selfie at her recording desk. Her hair is up, rather scruffy, with strands tumbling around her face. She looks fresh-faced and beautiful.
Me:Aw. You’re so gorgeous.
Alice:You’re crazy. I’m not wearing any makeup and my hair’s a mess.
Me:You still look amazing. What time’s your interview?
Alice:At midday. I’m just running through everything, making sure I’ve got my questions ready etc.
Me:I hope it goes well. I look forward to listening to it.
Alice:I’ll include a message for you.
Me:LOL, okay. What’ll it be?
Alice:You’ll know it when you hear it :-) It should be up by the end of the day.
Me:All right. I’m off to do Secret Santa.
Alice:Have fun! Are you going to see Craig today?
Me:Yeah after work probably.
Alice:Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
