“Yep.” I drop my gaze to my laptop and pretend to read the screen.I totally didn’t just talk your little sister into having an orgasm on the phone.

We work solidly for an hour. We’ve just helped ourselves to a coffee and a donut and are settling down for the next phase when my phone buzzes in my trouser pocket. I slide it out and rest it on my thigh. It’s a text from Belle that’s just a line of emojis: , , , , , , . It ends with —I’m a good girl. Literally our whole telephone conversation in one pictorial text.

I stifle a laugh and text her back.Naughty girl

Belle sends me two emojis: and .

Jesus? Did she really just ask me to slap her ass?

I laugh out loud, smothering it as everyone looks over at me.

“Something funny?” Juliette asks, amused.

“Sorry.” I wipe the smile away.

“You’re texting a girl,” she says, her eyes gleaming.

I meet her gaze, lips curving up, but I don’t reply.

“Anyone we know?” she asks.

I just lean forward for one of the muffins that have magically appeared on the table.

“Whoever she is, she won’t be around for long,” Alex says wryly, turning his attention back to his notes.

Ouch. Thanks, dude.

“I know it’s early, and THOR won’t be ready for a few months, but I want to talk about the first trials,” Henry says. “Juliette, have you got the list of applicants?”

She starts going through the list. I listen for a few minutes, but I’m not involved in the patient selection process, and I drop my gaze back to my phone. As surreptitiously as I can, I message Belle back.

Me:Don’t send me texts like that when I’m talking to your brother.

Belle:LOL. Serves you right for what you did this morning.

Me:I was just trying to help.

Belle:Yeah, RIGHT. Tell me it didn’t turn you on.

Me:Okay, it might have had some effect…

Belle:You’re so wicked.

Me:I did try and tell you.

Belle:You realized you’ve created a monster?

Me:LOL what do you mean?

Belle:I can’t stop thinking aboutnow.

Me:My work here is done

Belle:In fact, I think I’m going to have another go.

My eyebrows rise a fraction. I glance around the table, but everyone’s studying the list on the laptop, listening to Juliette, and nobody’s looking at me.

Me:Seriously?
