“Bonna.” Her husband growled a warning, but it didn’t stop her one bit.

“Garon, you don’t think we’re not aware of where she disappeared to every weekend, do you?” Garon stood silent. “I think we can all guess what two young, beautiful people do when they go to a secluded house on the beach just the two of them. She always thought she’d be the one.”

“I have no idea what gave her that impression.” Garon’s voice was like ice.

“Do you want to see her? She just ran to the bathroom for a second…”

“Why would I want to see her?”

Bonna’s face lost all the joy. “It’s the polite thing to do, Garon, dear. You gave her false hope.”

Italian Mafia mothers are relentless when they’re trying to make a good match for their daughters, I’ve seen with my own eyes every time my mother spotted someone whom she thought would be good for Ariana. The only problem now was that Bonna never took into consideration the fact that Garon was not the man to care about keeping decorum. Not. At. All.

“When Monica and I started fucking, Mrs. Ciccisbeo, I asked her loud and clear if she could handle being in my bed knowing my cock was the only part of me she’d ever get. She said yes.” I watched Bonna’s face turn from pale to strawberry red. “I only slept with her two times before I passed her to my bodyguard. He’s the one who’s been taking her to the beach house, not me.”

Bonna looked enraged and I stepped back, not wanting to be in her line of fire.

“How dare you…”

Michele pulled her back. “Watch yourself, Bonna.”

“Didn’t you hear what he said about our daughter? All the while he’s associating himself with Pina Bernoulli?” Bonna threw her hands in the air and just like that, everyone was looking at us. “We have friends in Rome too, Garon. We know she worked in a brothel.”

Oh. Dear. God. We should have stayed home.

All Garon did was look at Michele. When he spoke, his words ground through his teeth. “Handle her, or I will.”

Michele was angry and Bonna was the target. He grabbed his wife’s arm and pulled her to him. “Don’t say another word.”

“But…”

“No buts, woman, or so help me God! You heard the man. Monica is twenty-five, she can handle her own problems. And leave Pina out of it.” He started apologizing to Garon and his wife shot daggers at me, so I moved further away, bumping into Giorgio.

“Oh, hey.” I said, looking up at him. “I’d seen your car out front.”

“Hey, kid.” He smiled, amused with the situation. “This was fun. Wait, you’re not actually bothered about it, are you?”

I shrugged. “Garon and I talked about it, there will be rumors about me. It’s true, I did work in a brothel, but I was just serving drinks.”

“I know.” He ruffled my hair and hugged my shoulders. “Don’t let them bother you. I think the way Garon would lose his mind now that he finally has something he cares about will be pretty fun to watch.”

“As long as they’re leaving the baby out of it, I don’t care for the rumors.”

“Why would anyone rumor about an unborn baby?”

“If they know I worked at Flora House, people will say it’s not Garon’s child. I know it.”

Giorgio’s laugh vibrated through me. “You hear that, you call me, kid. I’ll shoot them dead.” And I believed him. Giorgio was one of the most mature men in his family, alongside Don Caputo. He always stood behind, never involved himself in fights or gossip, never making too much of a spectacle, but make no mistake, he was deadly.

Goliath was big and scary, Garon was unhinged, Giovani was raised to be a merciless Mafia Don, but the rumor said no one had buried more bodies than Giorgio Caputo.

“Are you here alone?” I asked.

“Not really.” He looked at his table where two beautiful women were waiting for him. “How are you? Everything alright with the baby?”

“Yes.”

“Is Garon treating you right?”
