Cassandra slid up further in the seat. “Mr. Carter, are you married?” she asked, flirting to try and distract him.
“What about Ralph?” I asked, nudging her in the arm.
Carter laughed at her, and she winked at him. “He didn’t say no,” Cassandra flirted.
As we left the park, I dug in my purse, reaching for my phone and sending a message.
Me: I can meet you at Cassandra’s place.
Gianney: Is this a setup?
Me: Gianney, you know me better than anyone.
Gianney: All right, give me 30 minutes.
Me: Thanks.
Gianney: Cono is with me.
Me: Good he has some things to explain.
Gianney: A lot is going to be explained.
“Ma’am, I just got word your husband wants to meet for lunch,” Carter announced.
“What restaurant?” I pouted, frustrated with my plans getting changed.
“His assistant said the lobby near Calabresi Holdings,” Carter replied.
I sighed. “All right, I have a few minutes.”
Me: Change of plans I can’t meet now. How about in an hour or two?
Gianney: Vincenzo must have you on lockdown.
Me: Leave my husband out of it Gianney.
We arrived minutes later, and I hopped out of the car. Cassandra followed me into the lobby restaurant. The doors opened, and the hostess greeted me at the front.
Pushing my purse up on my shoulder, I said, “Hi, I’m meeting my husband for lunch.”
“Name?”
“Calabresi.”
She glanced at the reservation booklet, back up to me.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, I have your table waiting,” she expressed, walking me and Cassandra over.
I was taken aback by her weird behavior, but I shook it off, sauntering through the back, near the restricted area. She opened the door. My smile dropped the moment I noticed Angelina sitting at the table.
“Who is she?” Cassandra cocked her head to Angelina's table.
“Vincenzo’s old assistant.”
“His girlfriend,” Angelina teased.
