“Your dick is still hard.”

Our moment of pleasure came to a halt as we heard loud banging at the front door.

Vincenzo picked me up, moved me to the side, yanked the drawer open, took out a gun, and then took his phone off the charger.

“What’s going on?”

“Carter’s at the door.” Vincenzo slipped on his boxers and pants, then rushed downstairs.

“Wait, Vincenzo.”

Whipping around to face me, he shouted, “Stay in the room.”

“No.”

“Nyla, I need you safe.”

“I’m safer with you.”

He shook his head, grumbling under his breath. “Put some clothes on.”

After rushing into the bedroom, I snatched my robe, tights, and a t-shirt. “Oh, my God.” I quickly jolted from the window after seeing a few cars outside the property. I sprinted downstairs to find Vincenzo at the door with Carter.

“Greco’s people sent a message. If you don’t release Gianney, they’ll make a move.”

Vincenzo watched his men shoot at the vehicles outside our house.

I turned and ran back to his office. After picking up the phone, I dialed the first number I could remember.

“This better be good,” Renato grumbled, through the phone.

“Renato, it’s Nyla.”

“Nyla, why the fuck are you calling me form this line?” Renato blurted out.

I shook my hand, afraid to think the worst. “Um, Vincenzo is shooting at someone.”

“Nyla, calm down and talk slowly. What happened to my brother?”

Calming my breathing down. “Carter came to the door and said Greco sent a message.”

“Stay inside. Vincenzo will be fine, and I'm on my way,” Renato declared, ending the call.

Running back to the front foyer, Vincenzo wasn’t there.

“Vincenzo! Vincenzo!” I screamed, running outside, watching him stand in the middle of the font yard with a gun in each hand, shooting back.

The bullets sparked off the railings, the gate, and the cars.

“Vincenzo!” I shouted his name, he turned to look back.

“Get in the house!” he shouted, and my heart dropped when he fell to his knees.

“No!!!” I panicked, running to him.

All eyes stared back at me. When I saw my husband pass out, blood seeping from his body, adrenaline kicked in and I wanted revenge, even more than what happened to Mark. When I saw his body start to fall, I was grateful for how quickly Renato came when I called. At first, I was worried that he thought I had something to do with Vincenzo getting shot, but we had security cameras installed, and Carter explained how two cars rode by suspiciously twice and started blasting warning shots. Savio, Sante, and Elio checked in on me almost every 30 minutes while Renato was out front, going over the cleanup. The luxury of living away from prying eyes made it easier, because with no neighbors close by, no cops were called to investigate.

It took two of his men to carry him into the bedroom. Carter called the doctor and gathered more men to cover for the rest of the night—in case they came back.
