Rena stepped between us. “Vincenzo, calm down and let me talk to Nyla.”

Darting his eyes from me to Rena, Vincenzo walked around her and went to talk to his men at the door.

“Come and sit down.” Rena took me by the hand and led me to the couch.

I shook my head. “This is a bad idea.”

“Too late now. He’s proving a point.”

“Which is?”

“You like him.”

“What?” I scoffed. “Besides the fact that my boyfriend was killed in front of me, he’s the last man I’d ever be interested in.”

“I’m married to a Calabresi man, and I can see right through you.”

“Rena, nothing is going on between Vincenzo and me. I want to get him his money and move on.”

“You had a chance to give him the money.”

I stared at her. “You’ve lost me.”

“You could’ve given up your uncle’s information when he snatched you up after the robbery.”

I exhaled and stared unseeing at my new home. “My uncle and I don’t have the best relationship.”

“Are you saying he wouldn’t save his niece?”

My mouth twisted bitterly. “Let’s just say that I doubt tomorrow's meeting will go in my favor.”

Rena studied me for a moment. “I think you and Vincenzo need to have a talk. I noticed the attraction between you the first time I saw you together at the casino.”

“Not everyone wants to marry a Calabresi,” I said wryly.

“Don’t worry, it’ll snow in hell first,” Vincenzo drawled, catching me off-guard.

“Calm down. It was girl talk,” Nyla chided. “I expect you to behave, Vincenzo. Nyla knows to call me if you hurt her.”

“Dream on, Nyla,” he muttered.

Rena waved goodbye and the door closed behind her.

I twisted my hands, feeling suddenly nervous. “Vincenzo, I—”

“Save it. You can take the guest room.”

“The couch is fine.”

“You’ll stay in the guest room,” Vincenzo said calmly. “This place is fitted with cameras, and I’ll be sleeping out here to ensure you don’t try to escape before our meeting.”

“Asshole,” I muttered as I trailed behind him to the stairs. He showed me the bathroom, with its large tub and a separate closet for towels. It was stocked with every feminine product I could wish for. “Of course, you have every product a girl needs,” I said sarcastically.

“Watch your mouth.”

I jumped, not realizing he was right behind me.

The guest bedroom was opposite the bathroom and had a king-size bed, a TV on the wall, and a window nook with a loveseat.
