I took a deep breath and chugged another whiskey. Snatching up the phone Savio had given me in the car, I went to my office to replay the video footage. I kicked off my shoes, reminding myself to find a new housekeeper. I’d been using a service my mother provided through one of her friends, but the woman they’d sent over eye-fucked me rather than working.

Loosening my cuffs, I typed in my password. I logged into the casino security system, rewatching the hour before I arrived. I observed the security guard I’d punched hauling Nyla into the room. He groped her while her boyfriend did nothing and tried to use her as a get-out-of-jail-free card.

“Bitch ass.”

Nyla's naivety pissed me off. She’d seemed smart when she came in for an interview. It upset me that she would choose someone so beneath her.

Now, I tensed as I watched her pleading for herself and her boyfriend. As I watched her boyfriend yell at her, I became upset that I’d killed him so quickly.

Finishing my drink, I left to shower and get ready for bed. For the rest of the night, I contemplated how to get my five million back or kill Nyla’s entire family as payment.

Loud voices echoed as I entered my parents' home. I hurried to the kitchen to see Rena and Renato going back and forth, bickering as usual. Slapping him on the head, I kissed my mother’s cheek, snatched a piece of toast off her plate, and scarfed it down. Pouring a glass of juice, I sat and listened to the banter.

But the banter had ceased, and I suddenly realized I was the focus of attention. “What?”

“You never miss breakfast, Vincenzo,” Madre observed.

I grabbed a napkin. “Long night.”

“Doing what, exactly?”

Renato rolled his eyes, and Rena elbowed him. Madre glanced between Renato and me, and I wondered if she suspected something.

“Renato, if you involved your brother in family business that I specifically asked your father to keep from him, I’m sure you would tell me, correct?” Madre asked calmly.

Renato scratched his brow nervously.

“Renato!” Madre snapped.

“He’s running the casino,” he confessed.

I glowered at him, waiting for the interrogation.

“Legal casino business?” Madre stared at me.

I rubbed the back of my neck. “Madre, I’m a grown man.”

“You will always be my baby.”

“Aww, so sweet,” Rena teased.

I flipped her off.

Renato frowned in disapproval. “The only person who can flip Rena off is me, motherfucker.”

Our mother pinched his arm. “Watch your mouth, Renato.” She slipped off the stool and carried her coffee cup to the sink.

“We have a meeting to get to. You can baby him later,” Renato said.

A few hours ago, my life was simple: wake up, run a billion-dollar business, have fun, and get laid. The rule book didn’t mention organizing a clean-up crew and searching for stolen money.

I trailed Renato to my father’s office, where he sat behind his desk.

“She’s still alive,” Renato told him as we entered.

My gaze flew to my brother, angry that he’d brought my father in on last night’s situation.

Silence filled the room. I could never go wrong with parents like mine. As the youngest, they wanted to keep me from the business, but it felt like they controlled my life. My brothers had also tried to protect me—until I’d proven my worth when Cora was kidnapped.
