“Great, where are we going?”

He turned to head into the house, and I jogged up the steps to keep up. I could tell that the walls he had put up were slowly coming down.

He turned off the alarm. I stopped and scanned the foyer, I was amazed at the warmth and feeling of the home. It was completely different from his condo. I looked at the cream-colored the foyer, oval-shaped bay windows, family pictures, and antiques hanging on the walls.

“Your home is beautiful,” I said, staring at the painting of him as a young boy with his siblings.

“Don’t touch anything.”

“Promise not to rob you,” I joked.

“You can change in the guest bedroom upstairs on the right.”

His home had to be sitting on a few acres, so I peeked at another house in the back. “Shocked you let me see your place.”

“We have fifteen minutes before I leave you.” He ignored my statement.

Chapter 12

Vincenzo

Tonight, I was already going to be 10 minutes late. A few cars were coming in, and I’d set aside the time to have dinner and try to get Nyla and I on the same page. A private eye whom my brother hired hadn’t found anything since the video of him with Gianney, so when I took Nyla out, and we bumped into him, it made me suspicious that she knew. Based on the look in her eyes, I could tell she had no clue about our relationship with Cono and Mark. Having her schedule a meeting with a lawyer and finding the paperwork were on my agenda for this week. Soon after, we’d end the marriage, and I could go back to my normal life.

While coming from the bedroom, I heard singing to my left. I pushed the door slightly open to see Nyla, letting her hair fall from her ponytail and flow down her back. She had changed into a black leather dress, with thin, strappy red heels, and I told her it was a business event. The way she was dressing and displaying her plump breasts and round ass ignited something in me. I hated her for causing me so many problems. I was jealous of the men who would flirt with her, and it baffled me. I never noticed how women I slept with dressed before. Meeting my eyes, she whirled around, waiting for me to say something.

Clearing my throat. “Car is waiting.”

“Where are we going again?” She picked up her coat and clutch.

I’d had clothes purchased for her and left here in case I had a business function. Our wedding day at the courthouse was basic, simple, and fast. She’d asked me if Cassandra could be her witness, and at first, I started to protest, but after thinking it over, having her best friend there made sense in case we needed to confirm anything with the lawyer. Carter drove us all downtown, and I had arrangements made for us to have dinner afterwards alone with a chef at the condo. Nyla and I sat and talked most of the night about her parents, and how she wanted to have a better life.

“I know I have said it a hundred times, but I am sorry for what I did,” Nyla said, sitting across the dinner table.

Guzzling my wine, I said, “Taking the steps to fix it means a lot to me and my family.”

Smiling, she cut into her lamb, moaning from the flavors. “Your chef is amazing.” Nyla took another bite.

“Pay him enough, thanks.”

“If we get the money, are you going to let me go?” she wondered.

That was a problem I had debated for a while, and at first, my family’s code was to get rid of all our enemies, but my brothers forgave their spouses and saw a change. I always thought that anyone who stole from needed to die, but Nyla made me see a different side of things.

“Hey, you're making me feel like I'm a bad date.” Nyla tittered, bringing me from my daze.

“Thinking.”

I helped her to slide her coat on, walking out of the house, held her hand taking the stairs, and Romo unlocked the front passenger seat.

“Driving in your Bentley?” Nyla looked at me.

Security would trail me and give me a heads-up as to how tonight would go. We didn’t need too much protection.

“I can drive.”

“Shocking.”

“How so?” I shut the door, came around to the other side, then slid in and closed the door.
