I hurriedly messaged them, not wanting them to catch onto my lies. The faster I could get dressed and sneak outside, the better.

Logging out of the group chat, I ran in the backroom for a quick hoe bath, fixed my hair, and touched up my makeup. I eyed a black leopard jumpsuit in the closet and figured tonight I would let loose and find my inner self.

Thirty minutes later, I got a text from Rena. She was outside. I ran from the bedroom, checking to make sure Vincenzo was still locked in his office. I smiled at my plan and slowly disabled the alarm, then reset it. Upon seeing Carter in the car talking to the girls, I walked downstairs and opened the door.

“Mrs. Calabresi, Vincenzo let you out of the house without a fight?” he joked.

“He did, and I promised to be home early, so we better get going.”

“Have a good night, ladies.” Carter waved at us.

I tossed my things to the side, then hugged Sonya and waved at Rena. Their driver left the wraparound driveway, and I stayed low to avoid seeing any more of the guards at the gate.

Chapter 14

Vincenzo

Renato snarled. “Are you crazy?”

As soon as we got back from Cono’s house, I went into my office to get my brothers on a call. Renato, Sante, and Elio had each beat it into my head that I should have had Cono come to the office on neutral ground. Giving him the luxury of being in his own home had given him an ego boost.

“Renato’s right, Cono should never have the upper hand to make demands,” Sante explained.

“Savio needs to be aware of what happened,” Elio tossed out.

“He’s going to be pissed.”

“Not if I go and kill Cono right now,” Renato growled.

“How’s Nyla handling your threats?” Sante inquired.

“She hates her uncle, but wants him alive, especially since she found out she’s adopted and not a real Sartori.”

“I can understand her seeking information for herself,” Elio commented.

“She’s a fucking Calabresi now by marriage. Fuck the Sartori’s,” Renato barked, in frustration.

“Renato, watch what you say about her,” I fussed.

“Are you taking up for her now?” Renato remarked, and I didn’t know at the moment that I was backing her up.

“All I’m saying is that she’s been through a lot.”

“She fucking robbed us!” Renato shouted.

“Renato’s right, but Nyla’s been around us, and she’s not into anything shady,” Sante insisted.

“Are we sure?” Renato pried, and I felt it in my gut I needed to fill them in on the stock seat.

“Well, there’s something else I need to tell you.”

“What is it now?” Elio asked.

“Cono not only wants Sartori in the alliance of families, but he’s trying to go after a board seat at Calabresi Holdings.”

As he chuckled through the phone, I could tell Renato was ready for a bloodbath. “Listen, fuck your wife and her family,” he grunted.

“Renato, you're my brother, but keep my wife’s name out of your mouth.”
