I have a knack for retaining random information. I love trivia, and once I learn something, it sticks with me. So I often get calls from my friends or family with odd questions. I don’t mind though. I love the challenge.

“What do you need to know?”

“The world’s tallest building.”

“Burj Khalifa in Dubai.”

“How and why do you know that?” he says surprisingly.

I finish the taco and notice there is only one napkin on the table. The one Link had used. “Better question is why didn’t you just Google it?”

“Because you’re my Google.”

“I’m glad I’m good for something.” I pick up the napkin and find a clean corner of it to wipe my mouth.

“Next time you run into Link, tell him to call me. He’s been ignoring my texts.”

“I’m sure he’s not ignoring you. I’ve seen him twice today, actually. When I see him again, I’ll tell him to call you.”

“He’s really bad at responding to text messages. He reads them with the best intentions of getting back to it later, then never does.”

Mark might as well be describing himself. He is worse than Link. “Hmm. Seems I texted you three days ago and am still waiting for a response.”

“You did? Oh. Right. You did. The tickets are sold out.”

“Mark! Were they sold out three days ago when I texted you and asked you if they were still available?”

“Um… I don’t remember.”

“Mark?” I say a little more sternly.

“Yes. They were still available. I’m sorry. I’m really bad at responding to messages.”

I finish Link’s soda. “Well, fortunately for you, I checked myself since I knew you wouldn’t get back to me.”

“You got tickets?”

“Yes. I’ll let you know how it is. I’ve got to go now. Go wow your co-workers around the water cooler. Or wherever you hang out and gossip at the office.”

“Thanks. Enjoy the show.”

“I will.” I didn’t buy tickets. Like my brother, I’m a bit of a procrastinator. But I told him I got them, which he’s totally stewing about right now. I think about Mitch, who has tickets and invited me to go. I could go with him and then tell Mark all about the wonderful show. The only problem with that plan is that I’d have to go with Mitch.

I look at my phone for a moment, then dial Mitch.

“Lovely Allyssa. Why are you calling me?”

I decide to get right to the point. “I’ll go to the concert with you on one condition.”

“Anything.” He answers quickly which worries me a little, but I decide to go through with it anyway.

“It’s strictly two colleagues going to enjoy some music together.”

“I promise I’ll be on my best behavior.”

“Friends, Mitch. Nothing more.”

“I got it.”
