I look at the guy she’s with. “Well, that’s definitely not what’s his name from Istanbul, so I guess that didn’t work out.”

“He went home, and she still had two years of school left.”

“Hmm. She still looks pretty good.”

Allyssa elbows me in the ribs. “She was horrible to you.”

I sigh. “We were horrible to each other. But it worked. For a while.”

She smiled. “Until what’s his name came along?”

“Yeah.”

“Let’s go say hi.” She says.

“Nah. Let’s not.”

She tugs on my arm and we head toward Trish and her mystery guy. When she spots me, she smiles.

“Lincoln Brandt. What are you doing slumming with the underclassmen?”

“Trish.”

She looks at Allyssa. “Allyssa? Are you still friends with this guy?”

Allyssa nods. “Yeah. Actually, we’re getting married in the spring.”

Trish seems surprised by the news. “Wow. I didn’t think anyone would be able to tame the football jock. Let alone get him to the altar.”

Allyssa pats my arm. “Well, he’s a cop jock now. And it took a while. But I got him.”

“A cop? Interesting.”

I get the feeling that she’d be willing to take right up where we left off if I was available. The man with her offers his hand to me.

“I’m Blake. Trish’s husband.”

I shake his hand and refrain from offering my sympathies. “Nice to meet you.”

Trish puts a hand on my chest. “Maybe you’ll save me a dance. Blake won’t mind.” He looks to me like he’d definitely mind.

“I think my dance card is full with my fiancée.”

She sticks out her bottom lip. “How romantic.” She glances at Blake, then smiles at Allyssa. “I’ll see you guys around, then, I guess. Congratulations.”

Allyssa gives her a polite smile. “Bye Trish.”

We both watch Trish walk away, then Allyssa looks at me. “Geez. If she was here without her husband, I’m pretty sure she would’ve tried to drag you off to the coat closet.”

“I don’t think this place has a coat closet.”

“Whatever. The parking lot. The alley.”

I laugh. “It seems Trish hasn’t changed.”

Allyssa shakes her head. “I had no idea she was so…flirty”

“Oh yeah. Trish was never one to shy away from letting someone know just how she feels about them”
