Fuck.

No wonder Victor was still now. If the bomb went off when he was in the building, then all of this would have been for nothing. We would all die and none of this would mean a thing. None of us would be able to get our happy ever after. I stared at Liam in horror, and he stared at me in the same way. Was this really the end? Now?

BROCK

Shit. As soon as Victor went for Robert, that was going to be the moment that I lashed out and attacked. I’d been biding my time, waiting for the perfect moment, but now Robert had messed all of that up. What the hell was that asshole playing at?

“You aren’t supposed to be here with that,” Victor growled the moment he shifted back into his human form and pulled some pants on. “You know what you’re supposed to come here with, don’t you? Not the fucking bomb detonator. That could fuck up everything. Me and you will die as well as everyone else if you mess around like this.”

All the color drained from Robert’s cheeks, but he didn’t move. “I won’t bring her to you. I need her.Reviveneeds her. I have so many scenes left to finish.”

Victor tossed his head back and let out a nasty cackle. “I really don’t give a shit about this movie, and you shouldn’t either. You know as well as I do that this movie doesn’t mean a fucking thing. I’m not paying you for this. I’m paying you forher.”

At this point, I had no idea who he was talking about, but he wasn’t getting anyone. That just would not happen. I held my fists tightly by my side and waited impatiently for Victor to continue. There had to be more to this tale, didn’t there?

“You’re not about to fuck me over, Robert,” Victor warned. “This doesn’t make any sense. I don’t get why you would do this to me now. We have worked so well together.”

“We’ve not been working together.” Robert shook his head hard. “You’ve been threatening me. I thought that we would work together, but that was never your intention.”

“My intention was to get my bride, and you know it,” Victor screamed. “You have known that for averylong time now so stop fucking around with the bomb.”

Victor lurched at Robert, which made my heart leap into my throat. I edged out of my hiding place, right as Robert threw the bomb detonator at me. I wasn’t sure what he thought that I would do with it, I wasn’t on his side either, but I grabbed it gratefully so at least someone with a rational mind had hold of the deadly weapon. Now I just had to be careful not to detonate the thing by accident. This wasn’t a typical bomb, it was handmade and shitty. Who the hell was behind this? Not someone with a decent military mind, that was for sure.

I narrowed my eyes at Victor who was already coming for me. He had red rage burning in his cheeks. I didn’t know what the hell his end game was here, but he wouldn’t get this off me no matter what happened. I wasn’t going to let him loose with something this dangerous.

“I just want her,” Victor shot through gritted teeth. “I need her. You give her to me and I will let everyone else go. One life isn’t worth all of this. One life isn’t worth a bomb exploding.”

“Onelife?” I shot back angrily. “Are you planning to kill someone? Because I amnotgoing to give up any lives to you. That is crazy. I don’t know why you’d eventhinkthat.”

“I’m not going to kill her. I want her to be my bride. Ineedher to be my bride. She’s my fated mate, I just know it. I don’t know if she sees it yet, but she will.”

“Who?” I glanced at Spike who looked as confused as me. “Who is your fated mate? What the hell are you talking about, Victor? You need to start making sense.”

“Sarah Billingham.” All the air sucked out of the room as he said this. Sarah had been worried that this was all about her, and we’d all half dismissed that idea because we were more convinced that this was something to do with Spike. It made sense because of their past connection…but now it turned out that he was just one of those celebrity stalker weirdos.

“She is aprincess,” Victor growled again, his cheeks now turning so red that they were spotting a funny shade of purple. “Royal, and she should be back in the wolf world, married to an alpha like me. We all know that’s what the king wants. There is no way that he can be happy with his daughter galivanting around Hollywood as if her royal duties mean nothing.”

Oh dear God, what was this bull shit that he was spouting? What a load of absolute crap!

“I don’t think that you are in any position to talk about the life of someone you don’t even know, do you?” I held up the bomb detonator, very carefully of course, as a threat to Victor. “You can’t control Sarah. You have no say in what she does. She’s allowed to live whatever life she wants to. I’m sure her father is very proud of all that she has achieved.”

Victor glowered. “It isn’t right for a lady of her standing, and you know it. Tradition has never allowed royalty to behave in this manner. Am I so bad for wanting to keep things how they are supposed to be? When I am Sarah’s husband, we will follow tradition. I will do things in the right way and keep her father happy. Wolves will be much more likely to keep together and work together if we keep to traditions.”

Urgh, I did not like where this was going. He was basically suggesting that we all go back in time and treat women like they were second class citizens again. I didn’t even know that people had those attitudes anymore. I thought that we were long beyond that. But I guess not. There were still devolved idiots like Victor around.

“My fatherisvery proud of me.” I didn’t think that I was the only one who went into panic mode when Sarah’s voice filtered in the room. What the hell was she playing at? She needed to be hidden more than anyone else because she was in danger most of all here. I couldn’t believe she’d come out to ace Victor head on, this was madness. “No one thinks that a wolf princess needs to behave in a certain way anymore, you philistine.”

Victor’s eyes widened as he watched her come closer to him. His whole demeanor actually shifted. It was very obvious that he had some sort of strong feelings for this woman, but to me they seemed much closer to obsession than love. Seeing Spike’s reaction confirmed that he was on the same thought track as me. This wasn’t good, and there was a big chance that Sarah’s presence was going to make it a whole lot worse.

“And doesn’t it have to work both ways for us to be fated mates?” she sneered, openly mocking him in a way that made me incredibly nervous. But Spike was holding back, so I did too. Plus, I couldn’t forget that I had this stupid bomb detonator that I couldn’t do anything with for fear of it setting off. “Because there is nowaythat I would ever like you in a million years. You make me feel sick actually. You repulse me. You’re weak and clearly a terrible alpha. I mean, where is the rest of your pack? It seems to me that you’re out here alone.”

My eyes immediately flickered everywhere, but my fear that other wolves were about to appear dimmed sharpish. Was Victor actually here on his own? As the alpha of the pack, he could technically make his crew do anything, but it seemed like they hadn’t followed him here. There was some shit going down in Spike’s old pack, that was for sure. But his stories always suggested that there was trouble bubbling underneath the surface because they didn’t like to live in harmony. There was always some fight or another to be had. Maybe that fighting had now started in house, and Victor didn’t have any control over it. Interesting…what did that mean?

“I don’t need anyone else,” Victor growled. “Not when it comes to being in love. And youwillbe in love with me, no doubt about it. You just need to give me a chance. Give me some time, just get to know me and you’ll see that I’m right for you.”

“That isn’t how fated mates works.” Sarah tossed her head back and laughed heartily, making Victor kind of shrink in on himself. “It’s a feeling that you get as soon as you meet one another. I donotfeel that way with you, so there’s no way it can be that way for you.”
