“You have a stepmother? Oh, right,” I remarked. “I remember seeing your dad announce his plans for the wedding.”

“Yes, and that's my incoming stepmother's friend,” she explained.

The woman in question was on her own. She was trying to get some things, and then a guy approached her. I recognized him.

“What is that idiot doing?” I frowned.

“Do you know him?” Tabitha asked.

“Oh, uh…no, I don't. She just looks too uncomfortable, and he's clearly not getting the message,” I noted.

“I see,” I said.

“Oh well, I guess we can help her out,” Tabitha said, “since you’re that bothered about her.”

“What? Yeah, I guess so,” I responded. “Or maybe we should just stay out of it.”

Strange.

“Are you sure you've never seen this man before? Or maybe you know her?” Tabitha asked again.

“No. It's just because someone else is coming to handle it,” I said and pointed over to Olivia's direction.

“This is interesting,” Tabitha grinned as she noticed the man I would later know as her older brother try to help the lady out.

After they were done talking, Tabitha suggested we follow them. I made up an excuse and claimed to be going to the bathroom. But I methimagain.

“Liam, I thought I warned you that I didn't want you anywhere around,” I reminded him.

“I promise you I wasn't here for your woman. The person I talked to was an old friend who owed me some favors,” he defended himself.

“Why did she look that scared of you?” I asked.

“I don't know. Most people see me and assume I'm evil or something,” he shrugged.

“I can't argue with that logic,” I said.

“Don't even try to be funny,” he said.

I lowered my guard a bit.

“So, do you think you can convince her to sell?” he asked.

“Why exactly are we selling the hospital? A partnership would be more than enough,” I suggested.

“To be honest, I don't care what they want to do with the hospital,” he said, “just as long it does not affect my business.”

“And what is your business?”

“Just know it’s also a branch of medicine,” he answered.

“Also, I would advise you to be careful with your movements,” he said. His eyes darkened and his voice became much more severe.

“Why?” I asked.

“I don't really know, but I think something bad will happen soon,” was his only reply.

That completely unsettled me. I had definitely gotten myself into something else entirely.
