“Did he offer you a car or something?” I asked.

“He offered me an enemy I spent my time looking for,” she answered. “Why would he give me a car? I have several of those.”

“The man you had been looking for?”

“Yes no other one but him,” she replied.

“Congratulations. So you've held him for questioning or something?” I asked.

“No I killed him,” she burst into laughter. “You should have heard the way he was begging for me to spare his life. It was so hilarious.”

I laughed as well. It was a nervous chuckle. If Mother laughed, you were to laugh as well. Even as an adult, I was scared of her.

“So we raided it, right? Found out he was involved with organ trafficking amongst other things,” she said. “Whoever these guys are, they might be dangerous. I don't know why they want me, though. I guess everyone loves and wants me. Unlike your trash bag of a father.”

But you are the one who left him.

I didn't say it aloud of course. I didn't want to be the next person she'd raid.

“Did you at least report to the police?” I asked. “From what you explain, there were some people who were alive by the time you got there.”

“I placed them where they belonged,” she replied. “Remember my NGO? The one just a front for the rest of my operations?”

“I didn't know you had one,” I answered.

Besides the time I had met her to ask for advice, this was the longest I had ever spoken to Mother, and it wasn't anything motherly related.

“Well now you do,” she said. “I'm at your father's manor right now. If you don't mind visiting.”

“I don't think I would have the chance to come,” I answered.

“It's a pity,” she sighed. “Lucas put me in the mood of being a mother again.”

It might be a little too late for that now, Mom.

Again I kept the thought to myself.

“Sorry to cut you short but is that the reason you called me?” I asked.

“Yes that will be all for now,” she said. “Oh, wait there was something else.”

“Yes?”

“You don't have to sound so displeased that I'm still on the phone with you.” I could picture her rolling her eyes.

“I wasn't displeased, ma'am,” I answered.

“That's my girl,” she said. “Anyway, you and your siblings should be careful how you relate to anyone. Maybe I shouldn't have killed that guy after all.”

“Why didn't you think about it then before doing it?” I asked.

“I have no idea. It was fun though. Now they'll know better than to try to anger me,” she said. “However, that would mean if they can't attack the lioness, they'd go for her cubs. Lucas is washing his hands of everything that concerns this matter. I don't blame him.”

“Why did he ask you for help though?” I asked.

“Beats me. You were the one who told him where to find me. Ask him yourself,” she said as she exhaled.

She was probably smoking while talking to me.
