“Where to?”

Instead of answering, he gives Gabe to my mother and then leads me to his truck.

“Where are we going?” I ask as we drive away from the festivities.

“Just wait and see. We’ll be back shortly.”

“Okay.” Deciding that not knowing is part of the fun, I lean back in my seat and stop asking questions.

Until we get to Fletcher’s Pond.

“Josh? Why are we here?” I ask, but again, he ignores the question.

O-kay. Something funny is going on here.

Taking my hand, he leads me from the truck and across the grass. “I wanted to return to the spot where we had our first kiss.”

My face warms. I like that the kiss is what he most remembers from that night — or at least what he chooses to focus on.

“Remember it?” he asks as we walk into the woods and end up at the spot where we had our Truth or Dare game.

I roll my eyes and grin. “How could I forget it? But why are you bringing me back here today?”

Josh turns to face me, his eyes intense. “Because this is where it all started for us. This is where I realized that I was in love with you.” He takes a deep breath, his gaze never leaving mine. “And I want to ask you something.”

My heart races as I wait for him to continue.

“I know we’ve been through a lot together, and I know I made some mistakes. But I also know that I can’t imagine my life without you. I love you more than anything. And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?”

He drops to one knee and pulls out a small box, opening it to reveal a stunning diamond ring.

Tears stream down my face as I nod, not trusting myself to speak. He stands up and slips the ring onto my finger, then pulls me into a passionate kiss.

As we break apart, he whispers in my ear. “I promise to always love you and protect you, no matter what.”

With that promise, I know without a doubt that we can make it through anything as long as we have each other.

We make our way back to the event, hand in hand, and I can’t stop staring at the ring on my finger. It’s a symbol of our love and commitment, and I know that it’s something that I’ll cherish forever.

Once everyone sees the ring, it’s nonstop hugs and cheers. Even the alpacas and dogs seem to be celebrating with us.

I look over at Gabe, who is now fast asleep in my mother’s arms, and smile. He’s going to grow up with two parents who love each other deeply, and who will always put their family first.

As the day turns into night and the festival begins to wind down, Josh and I sit together in front of the bonfire, our fingers intertwined. The warmth of the flames and the glow of the stars above create a romantic ambiance that seems to have been created for us.

“I can’t wait to marry you,” Josh says, breaking the comfortable silence.

“Me too,” I reply, snuggling closer to him.

“I was thinking we could have a beach wedding,” he says, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

“That sounds perfect,” I reply, imagining the waves crashing behind us as we exchange our vows.

“It’s going to be the best day of our lives,” he says, his voice filled with sincerity.

I nod in agreement, knowing it will be a day that we’ll never forget.

As we snuggle, lost in our own thoughts and dreams, I know that I’m with the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with.

The future may be uncertain, but as long as we have each other, we’ll be able to face whatever challenges come our way. Our love will only continue to grow stronger. And as we embark on this new journey together, I’m so excited to see what the future holds for us.

“Hey, Erin?” Josh murmurs.

I lift my head from his shoulder to look at him. “Yeah?”

“Truth or dare?”

The End
