“I wonder how long this place goes on for.”

“Who knows,” Gabe said flippantly. “What I want to know is how the hell you fell for a Lorrian.”

Gianna sighed at him. “Are you still on that?”

“Uh,yes.”

She rolled her eyes. “First of all, he’s a Lorr warrior, not just a commoner.”

“Of course, he is,” her brother mumbled.

“Second… he’s actually kind of the prince, too.”

“What?” Gianna winced but remained silent while her brother continued. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Gianna, what the hell happened since I got kidnapped?”

“A lot!” She threw her arms up. “I’ve been searching for you since it happened. Kozien was the first person to help me.”

“What the hell is a Lorrian prince doing helping you?”

“I don’t know. I found him in the city. He runs a private investigation firm and helps people for a living.”

Gabe turned to her, giving her a weird look. “Why?”

She shrugged. “He didn’t want to be a prince. So, he left, was kind of put off by his family, and instead of wallowing, he opened up a business to help people.”

Gabe was silent next to her for a long moment, making her want to rip her hair out. She wanted her brother to like Kozien. They both had similar ways of problem-solving, and both were protective as all hell. She knew they’d get along if Gabe gave him a chance.

He blew out a slow breath, the tracker vibrating in his hand while the arrow on top of it lit up green.

“Does this mean I get our place all to myself now?”

She scoffed, shoving him and turning toward the wall of safety deposit boxes. “You’re so annoying.”

Kozien couldn’t help wanting to pace outside of the ship.

He’d donned a cloak, keeping the hood low over his face so anyone passing by wouldn’t pay attention to him.

Gianna and her brother had only been gone for a little over an hour and he was already stressing. Being so close to the royal palace and his parents made him want to jump out of his skin. He didn’t like the looming threat of their presence breathing down his neck.

And even worse, Gianna was out there roaming the streets without his protection.

He groaned to himself and leaned back against the ship, crossing his arms underneath his cloak.

Any number of things could happen to them right at that very moment, all of which he was unable to prevent because he was stuck hiding in the shadows so he wasn’t captured and hauled away to kneel at the feet of his father’s throne.

He hated that that man had ruled his life for so long. Even thinking about it now made him clench his jaw in anger.

“We’re headed back.”

Gianna’s voice on his wrist-comm sounded like music to his ear. He sagged against the ship, relief flooding over him.

Thankfully, the bank wasn’t far from where he’d parked the ship. Only about a seven-minute walk if they hurried, which he hoped they would. As beautiful as Lorr was, deadly enemies lurked among the shadows, all of which would kill at a moment’s notice.

Kozien checked his watch, letting the excruciatingly long minutes pass before he leaned away from the ship and peeked around the corner. Just up the hill, he spotted both Gianna and Gabe.

He smiled to himself. Right on time.

Grabbing the edge of his cloak, he moved to pull it off from over his head when he spotted two figures trailing after the siblings.
